[Bethesda.net] DOOM now updated with Vulkan! - Page 28

post #271 of 681
Here's how I see things

1. nVidia has better Dx11 performance;

2. AMD has an advantage in Dx12 and Vulkan but not enough to dethrone the high-end nVidia cards though some mid-range cards may trade places in specific games;

3. Dx12 and Vulkan are better suited for AMD hardware as they've had the most input in creating it;

4. For the moment all APIs (OpenGl, Vulkan, Dx11 and Dx12) offer the same graphics at different performance levels depending on the game and video card brand.

All in all Dx12 and Vulkan performance may improve in nVidia or it may not. At the end of the day I think it's perfectly viable to use Dx12 and Vulkan if you have AMD and Dx11 if you have nVidia. Whatever gets you the best performance in any specific game - use that.

If Vulkan works great for AMD then excellent. If nVidia doesn't need it to produce the same or better results - then great as well.

Know Issues:

Battlefield™ 4 may experience crashes when using Mantle. As a work around users are suggested to switch to DirectX®11.

Coming from someone who played through Doom on a 390 then replayed most of it on a FuryX - the performance was below where it should have been.. good to see this gets some gains. And hopefully Triple buffering now works as that was a absolute joke biggrin.gif

On my 1080 Vulkan seems to help @ 4k. With SMAA I haven't seen many dips under 60FPS now, used to dip a lot more often . Bit hard to judge without a specific built in benchmark but no complaints here biggrin.gif

Woah I'm getting close to 175fps with my I3 6100 and R9 390 on 1080p on Ultimate and Nightmare settings.

Even getting 80-90fps on 1440p settings using VSR.

The game was super buggy the last time i played. Random crashes on both DX11 and Mantle for no reason. Invisible walls, AI getting stuck, falling through textures and such. Its not an AMD issue, its the game.

LOL. Might actually be true with WoW, that crap is dying thanks to Blizzard themselves killing their own community, killing mods and servers.

You can troll better than that. Mantle was awesome early on,through 2014 and for about half 2015. BF4, DA:I, Thief, Sniper Elite III became very enjoyable experiences using mantle. The particular render path has been abandoned since last year in recent drivers but DX12-vulkan are already here (I am already enjoying Hitman and Doom) and DX11 radeon drivers are very good these days on BF4 too (and DAI).

WoW has been "dying" for the last 8-10 years now according to some

how much longer can it take redface.gif

will probably have 9+ mil subs at Legion launch, then slowly decline down to 6-7 until the first content patch

not bad for a subscription MMO in 2016
