[Bethesda.net] DOOM now updated with Vulkan! - Page 42

so yeah, it seems AMD is support the latest version of vulkan (1.0.17), whereas nvidia is behind with ver 1.0.8 and trying to manually update is fruitless.

have i mentioned how annoying the freezing is?

but what it does do well is improve minimal fps

saw the same story in RotR, min fps went up in benches in DX12 more so than the avg score did

it does help. My cpu is already a 6 core at 4.7ghz ram is overclocked but vulkan still helped. I don't think it's just cpu overhead

what I like in Nvidia now is that they get excellent DX11 performance on day 1 without having to rely on or wait for a DX12/async patches (note how RotR came out in Jan 2016, the first DX12 patch in March, but the async patch - only a few days ago, almost 6 months after launch)

but if such a patch does come out - they can still sometimes get a bit of increase for avg fps out of it (Warhammers current beta implementation of DX12 non-withstanding), as well as also get a decent minimum fps increase due to DX12 handling CPU better .. and min fps is pretty important all things considered

so its: "good from the start and can get better later"

Should be noted that the minor version numbers consist primarily of documentation updates and new/enhanced conformance tests.

There shouldn't be a practical difference is what I'm getting at in terms of features and compatibility.

well vulkaninfo17.exe (which comes with 1.0.17) reported a handful of extensions it looked for were not there . . . .

Overload of one core cancause those lower fps. Vulkan and DX12 does better balancing of core usage.

There seem to be plans for a second revision of the Polaris chips. Those should launch next year when GF works out the process issues. Still AMD has an uphill task with Vega and Zen in trying to get close to their competition in perf/watt.

My take on this is that the power target in general and stock VDDC on the 480 has been overshot to compensate for the wide gauge of quality the process is yielding atm. When a few random articles authors' are able to undervolt the 480 by 87mV; and 50mV; (and 50mV); without any complaints, retaining the same clocks, gaining performance and dropping 25w - 40w there is surely a discrepancy happening on GF's side - AMD increasing the stock VDDC to compensate..

A mature 14LPP should allow the voltage threshold, in effect, then the power target to drop significantly if these undervolts are an indication of it's efficiency potential.
