I installed a heatsink over the vram that is located directly under the heat pipes, that heat sink was mounted over 4 vram modules on the old 7870 and 3 on the 480... I left the other vram with nothing on them, my 290 didnt have anything on them so for testing I just left them without..I also left the mosfets uncovered for now... I used Artic alumina to glue the heatsink on and I used Artic mx4 for the gpu...

here it is sitting idle.. and its much quieter already.

after 10minutes of Heaven at 1320/2150 lowside temp set at 70c in wattman, and so much quieter.

I think this is definitely a worth while mod if someone is just wanting to tinker with the 480, I'm thinking its helped the temps a lot..

something else I've noticed, it cools down much quicker.

1350/2150 Heaven 10 minute loop.. I upped the voltage a little, up to 1100..

Not bad. Just a little higher temp wise than my mono plus, but yours looks much better.

Thats the only reason I didnt run the Mono myself, if they would offset the cooler and fan back over the gpu it would look much better.

I dont know if I want to push my480 any higher until I get heat sinks. I do know its running much cooler than the stock setup was.. and sooo much quiter.

some heatsinks finally arrived... had to do some minor trimming to fit them , the two locations marked by red boxs.. I also added a heatsink over the area marked by the blue box..
worked out pretty good.. I should get the heatsink for the other vrm's sometime this week, I'm going to do it a bit different than everyone else has done it., I'm going to use 3 individual heat sinks instead of one large one..

I wonder if you can tell me if the 270 X has the same heat sink specs as the 7870 GHZ edition?

I dont know.. I'm pretty sure they use the same bolt pattern.. See if you can google sapphire 270x and see any pictures of disassembled 270x's.
I'm thinking a sapphire 270x vapor-x might work real good for air cooling, if it will fit..
