1070 stock is already semi-stabilized, the price was never $379 that was just Nvidia blowing smoke up everyone's ass to make it look like the 1070 price wasn't significantly increased over the 970. The real MSRP is around $420 which is the lowest price you'll likely see from AIBs using a base model card that might even be equipped with a crappy blower. I'm sure there will be some $10-20 rebates to get the price down to around $400, but don't expect anything below that for quite awhile unless AMD releases something competitive.

As for the 1080, the stock is anything but stable. Most stores are charging over the suggested MSRP of AIBs - I have no idea what the pricing is on the 1080s other than EVGA who lists their prices on their webstore, lol. Asus Strix cards seem like they are getting $50 markups from Newegg even. As for Nvidia's suggested MSRP of $600, that will happen MUCH sooner than the 1070s hitting $379. The baseline 1080s go for $610-620 so all it takes is a small $10-20 rebate versus a $40 rebate for 1070s.

I see. I still can't decide if I want to go for a 1070 or a 1080 though. I know the 1070 has better performance/$ but which one would give me a better resale value in the long run (less money lost)?

Just ordered an ASUS Strix ROG GTX 1070 for $390 on Jet.com! Any thoughts if a heavily-OC'd 3570k will bottleneck this at 3440x1440?

Resale on GPU's is generally not good anyways. I personally would buy which ever one gives you the performance you want. If you are only at 1080p then the 1070 would be fine, 1440P and up I would side toward the 1080.

Probably the 1070 is still a better choice, When it comes to selling a used card, the buyer is typically going to heavily make a decision on the $/performance ratio and not much of anything else. I recently picked up a MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X here on OCN from a trusted member. It absolutely slays 1440p and by far the best card I have ever used. (My old card was a referenced 290X)

So you mean they will still have lower prices? I thought they will generally stay at their current price point for the next half year or so?
