Hopefully this will be fixed soon also, I have run both brands over the years they both preform great. Not dissing one over the other.

My Devil HDX works fine with the 1080. No problems in games, YouTube or ASIO.

I have a bunch of stuff running in the background and a video playing in the foreground when doing the check and max latency is still under 100 microseconds.

Here's mine for comparison. I should mention that the latency is barely noticeable, but still an issue nonetheless.

It's an issue on other cards including the 980, though maybe nowhere near as bad as the 1070/1080

I get ~150-300us, boot and close a game a few times to make the GPU jump between power states and then it suddenly settles at 30us for a little while. I've talked about this with some friends before, even some that have swapped back and forth between comparable AMD and Nvidia GPU's; done clean reinstalls etc - consistently getting minor issues on the nvidia side and clean low DPC latency on AMD side. I hit some DPC-related issues that force me to restart my system on a weekly basis and have done for a long time.

I would just like to mention something. ~99% of the people here on this forum are using their PC's mainly for gaming or other media consumption where high DPC might go mostly unnoticed and isn't much of an issue. However there are those of us (myself included) that use our PC's for a little bit of everything, including audio recording.

DPC latency is a HUGE deal for any one doing recording or real-time monitoring of tracks loaded with VST's in a DAW (Sonar, Reaper, Pro Tools, Ableton Live, etc). In fact a lot of people that are serious about building a system specifically for DAW use will build the entire system around attaining the lowest DPC possible. If one motherboard is reported to be stable and have 20us lower DPC on avg compared to another motherboard, you can bet the lower DPC board will make it into the that rig.

Basically if I had this DPC issue right now with one of these Nvidia cards, had no other backup card to replace it with, and was working on some recordings at the moment, I'd be absolutely livid! This would absolutely cause issues during recording and playback in a DAW environment.

However, Nvidia was quick to respond and agreed there is an issue which will be resolved. So points to them on that thumb.gif

This looks to me like a case of the problem having to get worse before it would be acknowledged.

Nvidia cards were using obscene amounts of power at idle with >120hz screens for a long time, they refused to comment on it until a 165hz monitor was released that used even more power and then suddenly it was a problem to be fixed in the next driver.

This DPC stuff has been affecting us for years, but now the 1070/1080 might have it even worse so it's finally getting looked at.

It's pretty cool if they can improve and fix this, one of the nagging issues with owning Nvidia hardware - but it's not a quick response.

Here's a pic of what i'm getting at the moment after a fresh restart (my worst issues are with days of uptime)

10-25us while GPU is loaded, 150-170ish while idle. My CPU is locked to 4.6ghz during this. This idle latency is ~300us sometimes and the issues that i see specifically are audio dropouts and desyncs during video recording though i have occasionally seen pronounced stuttering and FPS drops that was definitely related to an unusually high DPC latency.

Wasn't aware this has been a long term on-going issue. Shame on them then! Haven't owned Nvidia since my 8800GT died, as did the 7900 GT KO before it, and a 9600GT that never worked properly in 3D either. So ya, been on an Nvidia hiatus for quite some time.

By the way, if any one is curious about what high DPC can sound like... I've got a DPC Inducer made by TC Electronic. It checks DPC latency as well but I don't think the tool works in Win8/10. Will attach it below this:
