all RTS should be made with DX12 or vulkan in mind, they need to have as little CPU overhead as possible to give more room for AI and unit handling.

So, it seems it's definitely 2017 for desktop Zen. I can see many AMD-only systems being built with Zen and Vega. I will probably do that myself.

no estimated compute units for desktop APU?
though from polaris, we could probably expect Polaris11 (16CUs) at a lower clock.

technically when it come to yields, the ones affected the most are the big dies.
in this case we might end up with few 8core CPUs on stock.
8 cores aren't going to be a big die though. Look at Skylake core size with cache it's tiny. At ~100 mm^2 you can fit 4 Skyalke cores and their cache/mem controller and needed chipset.

AMD will probably be using a dedicated chipset on their enthusiast designs and full SoCs for their APUs. I think 8 Zen cores around 200mm^2 is going to happen.

The Zen APU with 4/8 cores and 12 SP blocks at 4W. Either it is clocked so very low (800-1600MHz) or I should jump on the hype train.

Wait. I thought summit ride was q4 with full availability in q1 17?

Lisa said they were on track

Server stuff comes late Q4 to certain customers. This has been the plan for a while.

i'm not concerned with release date anymore.

I've been saving $$ for a new rig for the past few months. Come Feb 2017, I will be purchasing a new rig. I hope AMD has Zen out by that point so I can see how they perform, but right now it's looking like a Kaby Lake build. Might actually be the first time I don't have an AMD part in my computer in a long time neither gpu or cpu. It's actually pretty disappointing honestly I've been able to rely on AMD to introduce new parts that I want to upgrade to.

Ie I went from a 1055t to a 8120 was more of a sidegrade but the FX chip was faster. Only upgraded because my motherboard supported it. Same thing with the 8320, direct drop in replacement, so I sold the 8120 and grabbed the 8320. What option do I have now? they simply don't have an option. I would have switched to intel by now, but Intel doesn't really have an option either lol. The 6700k peaked my interest some, as did the 5820k. The quad core 6700k doesn't really do much for my VM needs, so scratched that one off the list. The 5820k is a dead platform and I didn't feel the gains would really be worth it. Ideally A hex core/ octo core skylake is what I'm looking for.

went from the 6870 to the 7950. great upgrade was worth every penny. Even added a second 7950, for crossfire, decided against that due to heat and noise, and sold both cards and picked up a r9-290 and a waterblock. Been happy since. What option of AMD do I have now? The Rx-480- MEH, Fury X MEH.... again they simply don't have an option.

Intel and Nvidia want my money this turn around. Sorry AMD, you screwed the pooch. Maybe the story will change come feb when I'm putting this new rig together.
