[crossmap] AMD Zen APU Release Date and Specs: Set to be Released by Q1 of 2017? Will be Called AMD Zen FX? - Page 4

i'd rather they stop putting out anymore PR about Zen until they're a month or two away from actual launch.

announcing it years ahead of launch and bombarding us with "its gonna be great!" PR leaves me with a bad impression, specially after the bulldozer hype they made.

its a different approach, anything that has an IGP is classified as an APU, it doesn't matter if its on the same socket or is called an FX chip.
its like when they introduced their Athlon chips that doesn't have an IGP on socket FM2, you can't call it an APU without a functional IGP.

I really don't think they've been 'bombarding' us with anything.

That's pretty much to the level I'd expect from any company. It's like the most basic explanations of what they're aiming for. This is far-removed from Bulldozer.

BTW Bristol Ridge APU that is not relased yet.

If that is unlocked part it really have chance to success.
My bet is it will be better than Boardwell 5770C, absolutely great for budget PC.

if you're comparing a 2M/4C excavator to an 8C/16T Zen then yes.
furthermore its actually +180%, almost 3x, because it has a 40% IPC increase over Excavator.
and in theory it would even be further than that, as one would expect from Zen having 8C/16T, but lets not get into that.

what i was talking about were the news leak which says 8C Zen has double the performance compared to FX8350.

The leak was not from AMD but speculation on the part WCCF I believe.
Secondly, when we're talking about the increase in IPC we're talking about core vs core.

well, i just realized you changed it from "Zen has double the performance of Excavator" to "Zen has 40% increased IPC over Excavator".

its already listed on the 7th line, and its "greater than 40%" according to lisa su.
