I am making a micro UPS that can fit in my palm to protect my pfSense firewalls. Engineer should have a prototype ready for me in 3 weeks. It will connect via serial interface and upon power failure it will switch to battery then commence shutdown. Once power returns it will either auto turn on or if the power resumes before shutdown the unit will send a keystroke causing it to reboot. I need this because some of the locations I will be installing these are far away and cannot afford to take a plane trip because of a power outage! Also the unit is placed in line between the DC adapter and the firewall. IT is small and not a huge box like with APC units. We can also change voltage to meet larger unit requirements. I expect cost to be around $70-$80 per unit when completed. Yes you can find a more powerful UPS for less but you will have a hard time finding something small for IOT type deployments where they can be placed in ceiling or mounted easily on walls in remote locations. Otherwise I use a full size UPS and connect APS unit via USB to pfSense.
