Is my drive dead... do you think....

Hello friends!
I've been building computers for a long time, but I got kind of stumped, and have a question of some of the grizzled old vets around here.
I'll admit it. I did something really, really stupid. I stopped a complete system backup (It's a lot of data) in the middle. It had been over 15 hours and was only just over half complete.
I figured "THERE'S NO WAY IT WOULD TAKE THIS LONG" (Little did I know...........)
Just to rewind for a second, the HDD I'm having trouble with is of course a Seagate, and it's a 2 TB back-up drive. Initially it was a back up drive, I pulled on the wrong cord, dropped it on the floor and broke one of the inputs, or something that made it unusable, so, I took it apart and turned it into an internal drive. NBD, really. It was working great. I set up the complete backup and let her rip.
Now back to the present: If I boot up with the seagate "external (now internal)" drive plugged in, I can't get it to boot up. It just keeps on hanging and circling and never giving me the option to even get into bios to change things around.
If I unplug the drive, and boot my computer normally, everything works absolutely fine.
Of course I've checked the boot order just to make sure everything was okay. With it plugged in it does turn on and spin up, but never lets me past the first splash, just keeps spinning.
If I boot with it unplugged, then plug it in while it's on, the computer doesn't read it as a drive at all. It just doesn't exist according to the PC?
Has this happened to anybody else? Did I totally ruin my 2 TB drive? Any ideas I can try? Because I'd love to continue using it as an internal backup drive. Now, is there any software that can crawl through, and look and see if there are any other drives detected on boot? Or some weird solution I've never heard of. I think the drive works because it turns on and spins up, but it would probably hang while booting for 5 hours, or basically infinite if you'd let it. Does it sound like a warped data cable? Should I try switching them around? Any thought on my "problem" would be much appreciated. It's a Z9S Sli Krait edition mobo, 16 Gigs of RAm, 2 Samsung 250 evos, and a 1 TB HDD, processor i7-4790, and a Strix 970 GTX. Corsair 750 PSU. Plus the seagate 2 TB frown.gif
Any ideas are appreciated! If I put this in the wrong place feel free to delete, I'm a noob to this board, and thank you very much.

EDIT: Get this, I tried putting the seagate onto where the dvd drive is supposed to go, to test the cable, same behavior hanging, not being able to get into bios, but get this, the second I unplugged the seagate, it almost immediately booted into my desktop like nothing at all was wrong. Weird?

I've had a few drives that died and would hang the system like that. If it's not booting enough to get into bios there's not much you can do.

I apologize for the multiple posts, but can anyone recommend a cheap but good cloud based serviced for backups? I'm tired of all this Seagate Sh&&t. Also curious how well cloud works. I have stuff like drop box and google drive, but like a bunch of space for a whole system.

Nah, I sent it to western digital and they gave me another for free. I have some old magnets from an HP 404MB drive from the 80s those are cool, and huge.

If you're sick of seagate, switch to WD

I've had the same thing happen with a WD. With the drive plugged in the PC would not post. I tried different ports, cables, etc. W/o the drive the PC acts fine.
