I ordered the 470 8GB, but I received the 470 4GB, so Amazon give me 45€ and I get the 470 for 169€. Now I can sell the 470 without losing money and I think that I get a great price in the 480 rolleyes.gif

No. If latency goes up faster than the clocks you will lose performance while still running at faster clock speeds.

On my RX 470 Platinum I have to go from 1750 to 1950 before I see a 1-2% increase in performance. Going from 1750-1850 drops performance by 5% or so, even though clocks are going up from stock.

Something odd is going on in RSC/WattMan and memory clocks at the moment. Leaving them at default is just as good as overclocking by 200mhz and better than overclocking by 100mhz.

A good way to test is to run a game in windowed mode and change the clocks while you are watching an FPS counter in that window. You can see the effects of your modifications immediately. Right now, core speed gives a performance boost when it is raised and memory lowers performance slightly when raised.

These issues pretty much apply to all RX series cards in Windows ATM.

I have friend who has a RX480 reference model. He just told me via teamspeak that he is seeing the wattage in GPU-Z of 260w. Is that safe? lol

Probably a misreading, if anything. The GPU would overheat so fast with that wattage and that cooler it would be severely damaged in seconds. We're talking 120C+ temps.

Of course, before that happened, the core would thermal protect itself (crash and shut down power) or the VRM would self-protect or the GPU would throttle down nearly to idle clocks... or some combination of the aforementioned.

There are two problems with the recent drivers in regards to memory clocks. The first is memory clocks not actually being set at all, despite all utilities stating otherwise. The other is a failure to see positive (or sometimes simply as-expected) performance scaling with memory clocks that actually do set (such as yours).

I've only experienced the memory-clock-no-set bug... on two video cards (RX 470 and RX 480), four clean Windows installs (Windows 7 and Windows 10, two each), and two computers (Phenom II X4 and i5-2600k systems)...

Sometimes it would seem like the memory clocks would actually set, but it always seemed to do it when I had a wildly high value... and I'd end up crashing after millions of memory errors showed up in just a second or two.

With the 16.7.2 driver, I get proper scaling and the clocks always reliably set and are 100% predictable. All drivers after that are problematic.

I'll let him know. He says that card runs fine, with the exception of two games that he plays. World of Tanks mostly he said. I can't remember the other game. He says it just black screens and then says that the driver crashed and has recovered. Although, sometimes it will reboot the whole system. He's not running the current driver since it's beta. He said he might try it and see what happens though.

If HWiNFO reported the same, could that be a reading error as well? I know that yesterday when I was benching the 470, that HWiNFO always showed the core voltage at .58v. GPU-Z was reporting 1.150v. There seem to be a lot of reporting bugs on these cards. Strange.... biggrin.gif

Thanks for all help looncraz...you're alright, I don't care what other people say...<<<<Joke yessir.gif

EDIT: HWiNFO from the benchmark run yesterday, you can see some crazy readings:: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

That is crazy. Your cpu is maxing out. My i7 Sandy never gets maxed out with 2 290s.

That is what I have my chip set for. No turbo....it clocks up when needed to the 4.0ghz. HWiNFO reports the max. You can see the average is about 2.9ghz.
