And Pascal in general isn't going to age near as well as Polaris. 2yrs from now I wouldn't be surprised to see it wipe the floor with the 1060 (not 1070 or 80 though). One thing AMD GPUs have is they age very well, especially gcn products.

Hey guys so i want to buy an rx480 but need advice... Currently im using a corsair AIO cpu cooler but down the road i am planing on doing a full custom water loop. I would like to include the rx480 in my loop... Should i buy a reference addition because i know that there are waterblocks for it or can i grab an AIB card and expect to be able to find a block for it down the road? I would be disappointed if im stuck with a card that i cant add to my loop in the future... What do you guys think?

AiBs will likely have pcie power issues fixed. I'd wait and get one that sticks to reference board layout but fixes it's issues. Close to reference as possible is a good plan for having a good selection of water blocks

Right now you are only guaranteed to get a block if you get a reference card. It's a gamble going the other route.

The strix 480 could be likely candidate, EK have done a lot of strix blocks over time would not be suprised to see an ek480 strix block.

That's a gamble you will have to decide on.

It's looking like 3 fan solutions may be limited to Strix and Devil...at least from what info is available currently. Not an ASUS supporter any longer, but I will vouch for PowerColor's devil cards. Had a Devil 270X and just had a chance to play around with a friends Devil 390X. Very capable cooling, performance and looks to top it all off. Devil 480 reportedly boosting to 1400 out of the box smile.gif

Waterblocks typically haven't been available in this GPU tier previously so it's hard to say. There may be an additional waterblock for AIB cards, but personal opinion currently is the manufacturers will stick to reference. A Strix or MSI Gaming are most likely candidates judging by EK block history.

I'm content with keeping my reference card to block, but I will return it in a heartbeat if I get word an AIB card with 8-pin will be utilizing the reference PCB.

I opened a support ticket with XFX earlier today inquiring about reference board on any of their custom cooled cards...we will see what they say.

Just got a few replies from local shops, looking for reference 4GB RX 480, it seems like the distributors do not want to forward them to retailers and one shops specifically says that the AMD distributor is backing off from from 4GB version. Bummer. I suppose that one wave of 4GB reference cards to meet the $199 was it and now they won't restock them and wait for custom cards to fill in the 4GB gap.
