If that same card is available, it would make the cost about 130.00(US).
You could always "borrow" it and run some benchmarks though. thumb.gif lol

Those must be stock 1080s because on the OCN benchmark thread, people are getting 26K+ on graphics score for Firestrike.

As someone who has to do a rma process I can understand why you'd want to return it, but a quick search for that model and chirping fans only found this thread and some people complaining about unrelated problems. It's probably not a design issue. It's also a newish card so stranger things have happened and my google-fu, inadequate as it is, wasn't fully applied. To be safe it might be a good idea. I don't know. XFS has a good reputation for customer service maybe you should hear them out before you make up your mind.

I looked at all the amazon and newegg reviews for the RX-480P8DFA6. (I assume that's your card.) There are a couple of people who say it's a bit loud and then a few more people who say it can't be heard. Most other rx480s have a mix like that but no one said anything about chirping or a whine or even coil noise that I saw. I may have missed it.
.

I think I'm one of the first people to get this card so I'm not surprised no reviews mention it yet. I'm sure eventually some people will start experiencing this (or maybe I just got a lemon). It seems like a design issue with the fans but who knows. I tried taking them off putting them back in, but still noise. And I can pinpoint that the noise starts exactly when the fans spin up. When the card idles, the fans are stopped. The noise itself isn't a big deal (although at first I thought there was an actual bug in my computer) but seems like a sign to me that something isn't right.

Here is a recording of the sound with my phone. It's a bit louder in real life. This happens like every ~10 minutes even when I'm browsing the web. I think all that constant start/stopping screwed something up.

The Sapphire RX 470 Platinum is VERY close once you bump the power limit. Mine will go up to 1300 without throttling while using only wattman. Its not too loud at that speed, but its definitely louder than stock.

I tested against some people in this thread at the same clockspeed/similar memory speed, at worst it is ~10% behind and at best it is within ~1%. If you can get to ~1300 you will be around stock 480 performance as long as your memory clocks pretty high (1850+).

IMHO RX 480 4gb was released only because 470 inventory was too low to launch. RX 470 4gb was likely to be the $199 card with the RX 480 being available only in 8gb SKUs at $239+.

Welp.. Looks like I'll be getting the rx470 as Amazon changed their tune and decided to tell me the business equivalent of "that sucks, bye" so I'm out 150$ for a card that lasted 2 months. Won't be buying Amazon again that's for sure, Think I'll get the MSI one

If I'm hearing this right, you're saying you purchased an evaluation unit, which doesn't come with the standard manufacturer's warranty?

Sounds like bullcrap from their end regardless. They should 100% help you out. I mean a damn fire?? Have you tried escalating to the supervisors?

They said no still, fairly quickly might I add. Don't buy an evaluation unit from origin or Amazon is the moral of the story because unless it dies immediately you're out of luck. They won't flex even a little on 30 days and the timer starts when you buy it not when you get it. Just glad I was home and everything else in the pc is ok
