Bummer man.

I had my go around with Amazon. Actually the last two orders have been a mess. Counterfeit item first time...then a seller wouldn't honor his price. The counterfeit item I got my money back. The other item, even though it was a Seller mistake, Amazon wouldn't back me up, because I was never charged. lol

Keep hitting at them...maybe one of them will blink and do you right.

Always check the status and warranty of the item bought. There are many shops that sell returned etc. products at lower prices though I have never heard of evaluation unit. Returned, repaired/refurbished, open box, ... but all of these normally come with at least the mandatory minimal warranty if not their full extended one the new original had.

Visiontek unfortunately only warranties the original buyer and if you register to get more than 1yr and it's still in production. Has to be new and from official seller

Sounds like a unit the retailer took home and abused before selling. The e-tail equivalent of a floor model. At least that's how they're treating the warranty. Sorry about your card. The good news is stock at the msrp on the AMD side is here and there okay now. Got a reference rx480 for 239 before rebate. 169 after rebate. So maybe you'll find something. I know you said you wont go amazon, but I signed up for their rewards card and got $70 off of my purchase. Stock comes and goes but if you time it right they seem to have reference cards at msrp prices about once a week now. They can be a bit of a pain to deal with as it seems that their customer service doesn't always know what they're talking about. If you get the wrong rep they just listen and don't go out of their way to find out the correct information. Or they can't. Or they aren't empowered to actually make those decisions. Not sure. I have better luck with their written support because then you get a transcript to hold them to. I also find it easier to keep a level head while typing then while talking on the phone.

I once talked to a rep at amazon that made a business decision that my business wasn't worth it. I guess he was right because I still shop there. Jet has some in but not the reference at decent prices too if amazon is really a no go for you. I've gotten a couple of things from them and it's worked out.

Good luck.

Hey everyone,

Found someone selling a hilariously cheap Arctic Accelero S3 and finally put it on today.

The heatsink can be put with the base plate of the stock cooler that attaches to the memory and vrm as well! Stuck a 120mm case fan running 1200rpm that i had lying around. Don't think its pulling as much air as the noctuas I have for case fans. I had to reseat it cause i forgot to put the black foam around the gpu core on the backplate otherwise no issues with fitment.

Reached 62c and ran it for about half an hour on unigine @1300 1.050v and 2100@950. Ambient temperature should be around 15-18 degrees (or so it says on the map). VRM's didnt hit over 60 at all.

Pretty pleased with the outcome and still comes cheaper than buying a reference cooler down in Australia. Might change the fan to one that is more efficient but otherwise good stuff.

Hey guys, my aunt is in the US now, and I'm thinking of asking her to buy a RX 480 8 GB for me, since I can't find any model here anywhere. Besides, it'll come down cheaper for me too, GPUs are usually 30% more expensive here.

So I checked on newegg.com, and the cheapest custom RX 480 8 GB are XFX GTR and PowerColor Red Devil for 260, Gigabyte G1 Gaming and Sapphire Nitro+ for 270, which is as high as I'm willing to go.

I couldn't find any review for the XFX, but Red Devil was praised by reviewers. Unfortunately, my case only has like 28 cm graphics card clearance, and Red Devil is 31 cm long. I could probably cut the HDD bay to fit it, (I'm modded my case before) but I rather not to.

So how is the XFX? Anyone recommend it?

I personally would never buy an XFX AMD GPU after the DoubleDissipation fiasco. For that, and my opinion on what "praised by reviewers" means, check out my sig biggrin.gif Other than that I have no idea about the Red Devil, seems decent enough, although PowerColor are not known to be an A-lister.
