In dx11 hbao+ fxaa I get hard to notice digital noise around the edge of water in geothermal valley. In DX12 HBAO+ FXAA I get flashing textures and lights here and there in Geothermal Valley plus the same noise around water. This is in gameplay not the bench. The easiest to test for corruption is the SSAA2x/4x habao+ dx12 corruption in the bench. It doesn't happen on the computer upstairs with the same video card and driver version. The image issues are more annoying in Just Cause 3 as they interfere with interface elements of the map in gameplay. That's solid colored blocks overlaying interface elements on the map during the opening tutorial and over the justcause 3 logo in the opening credits. T-Rex in CompuBench has weird noise in the foliage that looks terrible. It doesn't occur on the same video card in another computer. So again, just looking for something to swap out that will solve the issue. I'm about 90% sure at this point that there is a compatibility problem with the As-rock extreme 6 and the rx480 that's a little subtle but noticeable in some games. At least the problem has persisted across 2 as-rock z97 extreme6 boards and 2 reference rx480 cards and after a system reload. The other 10% is that there's a problem with the cpu or ram that doesn't show up any other place or in any diagnostic or stress testing. Most everything else has been ruled out other than an unlikely compatibility problem with the Samsung 840 EVO. There's a high enough chance that it's the motherboard that buying another one is a logical step if your's works fine. GecKoTDF has the same corruption with SSAA4x hbao+ and dx12 in ROTR so maybe he has the same motherboard or another board with a similar problem. I also found one other user on the AMD forum with the same issue. I don't know what motherboard either person has, but I'd place a small wager at this point that they are AS-Rock boards.
edit: I guess I shouldn't do text walls. Just the rx480 test in your z97 system. Thanks.
Just break it up a little bit. All that text with very specific details can be hard to follow.
On the ASRock MoBo front, I can attest to PCIe issues with boards that I have had. Z87 Z77 Extreme 6, Z77e-ITX, and an AMD Board (can't remember which one but it was AM3+). All of those had a PCIe failure at least once, the ITX board had PCIe problems 2 times.
I usually don't come home for my lunch break, but I did today, so I will quickly run the RotTR bench and see if I can duplicate what you're talking about.
I definitely see what you're talking about when SSAA and HBAO+ are enabled. Dropping down to SMAA, or just reducing HBAO+ to 'ON' removes this problem.
I also tested on my R9 290 and the same issue is there, but it is nowhere near as noticeable as the 480. Where the 480 has a whole rectangle down in the lower left corner of the screen, my 290 displays an issue that only goes diagonally through that rectangular area.
