I have too actually, and core current having some really high spikes too. Glad kinda that is not just me

Edit: my core current and wattage when beyond stock voltage spikes up to 300w+ and 250a+. When stock it stays at 130-150w and sub 200a

Polaris seems like it just respond best to stock voltage and push that till you can't and same for memory. Power usage gets a little crazy

I just recently learned about CPU OC, I haven't messed with RAM since it can kill my whole system. My mobo can only take up to 1866, currently have 8Gb of 1600 in it. 80% of the time I have 50-60fps but when I'm in heavier areas (Diamond City etc) fps drops drastically and my CPU ramps up to 85-100% even with the 4.6Ghz OC on it. I will admit I don't 100% feel confident in my OC skills so there may be something not set high enough with my OC or something. Sapphire Nitro+ 470 8Gb card on stock, when I hit any area that's highly GPU bound I get great framerates.

I need to go through the programs that are constantly running on my PC and figure out which cause more CPU useage and disable them while I'm gaming, I have a little "monitor" that I attatched to my case, so I can watch temps, clock speeds, and useage while I'm in fullscreen gaming. Not sure if it would affect anything as far as useage goes or not.

Also my W7 could more than likely be optimized for while I'm gaming because I know it pulls a decent amount of resources itself just running in the background. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I prefer Black Ice :D

I see these spikes as well, not sure what the cause is TBH.

Take a look at HWInfo for the ~60min DOOM session on my Fury X that just came to a halt because of a crash...thought I had stable OC dialed in

Peak spiked at 354W, but average at 110W driving 1080/60 maxed settings Vulkan with Vsync on.

Temps on this Fury X are freakin unbelievable I tell ya.  That was even with the front door of my 350D closed; I know temps come down at least a few C from opening that up.

I was getting spikes like that on my 470 @1.2v, highest I think was 334w and 279a

@1.1v stock it doesn't do it, max is maybe 170w spike and 205a

Twice it caused my screen to blank (computer still running just no display) and one time a hard reboot

I'm 100% stock on my Sapphire Nitro+ 470 aside from a custom fan curve set in trixx. And I was still seeing random spikes like that (Fallout 4) so I'm not real sure what the cause was (is).

My friends immediately think of me when they smell or see Black Ice. haha I just got a text from a buddy the other day with a pic of one of those air fresheners with the caption "I just realized I associate this smell with you"... I guess thats good? At least it's not like, saw this garbage can, reminded me of you lol.

I supposed I haven't used any other sort of air freshener except that one since I started driving, so he has a point at least haha.

I got solid 1080/60 out of my 470 and 6800k with no overclock on the GPU (4.6 on the CPU) fully maxed out settings with vulkan as well. I didn't monitor my stuff during that playthrough though, I will check it next time I boot up Doom. (the new one, I play the old ones a lot too lol but that would be interesting to monitor XD)

And I may have figured out why FO4 was FPS dropping, I had tesselation mode set to AMD optimized (aka 64X.....) I think that turning that down to 16x will help my performance a bit lol. I gotta get accustomed to the Crimsion settings and what they do because I really have very little idea.

So just FYI (haven't seen it said) Rx470 users might want to look at tightening your vram timings vs too much overclocking. I copied the 1500mhz timing into 1750/2000 and it gave me a 40gb/s effective bandwidth boost in oclmembench and 4fps in firestrike (GPU test 2, 2FPS combined)@1800mhz memory.

Edit: corrected amounts because eyes see what they want too tongue.gif

ok so left is right now at 1350mhz/1800mhz(1500 timings)
Middle is my highest OC bench (1400/1875)
Right is 1350mhz/stock memory with only +50% power limit

switching to the new strap and 1800mhz gave me 2 fps gpu test 1, 4fps gpu test 2, and 2 fps combined test and a 650 point increase

just clocking the GPU to 1400mhz should put me right at or above the same score my highest but im too lazy

Also didnt bother with the 1350/1800 without the timing change as theyre the same as the 1750 results

Which card do you have? My Sapphire RX470 Nitro+ OC 8Gb card has 2000mhz, so you're saying to use the vram timing from the 1500mhz cards for my card? Sorry, still sorta learning. (And have no clue at all about RAM oc or timings at all DDR3 or DDR5 VRAM)

no for the 1750mhz users like me with the 4gb card, but why not give it a go on the 2000mhz you have. You could try putting the 1750 or 1625mhz timings in your 2000mhz spot and test it out then see if you can push the memory overclock again for even more bandwidth. I didnt expect a tangible difference from just a timing change but it seems to have a decent effect.

PS edited my previous post with scores

Im not familiar with how the tests work in fire strike but the memory seems to effect the gpu test 2 and combined more than it does test 1. Test 1 seems to scale a little better with core frequency

Ah okay, gotcha! I haven't (to my knowledge) voided my warranty yet, so I'm trying to keep it that way for as long as I can, so far I'm not running into any spots where I would need an OC on my 470, just need more oomph out of my 6800k lol

I have tried flashing 1500MHz timings on my card, it locks up immediately after launching games. It could handle 1750MHz timing but I can't reach the same max clock as before
