Ultimately rigged up my 480 using a Kraken bracket with broken Antec 620 pump/heatsink and plumbed it into my mini GPU loop.  I had (2) 120 AIOs lying around that were in good working order when they were last pulled from duty...the Antec 620 and a TT Water 2.0...BOTH of them skull.gif shortly after hooking them up and running a couple benches.

Loop is only using 1/4" ID tubing, XSPC EX240 radiator, (2) SilenX Effizio thermistor fans, and an XSPX X20 420 mini pump/reservoir.

Squeezed an extra 55MHz out of it with the good core cooling.  Topped out at 1405/2250 with max default 1.15V and 50% power limit; extremely minor artifacting so this is the limit thus far.

Amazing thing is how cool the VRMs run with essentially no cooling.  I half-assedly stuck an Enzotech MST-66 on the rear of most, it doesn't touch all, of the VRMs.  Ran numerous Time Spy's consecutively and haven't seen VRM temps exceed 80C with my IR thermometer.  May drop some copper sinks on the front of the card since I have some unused ones hiding around here somewhere.

Time Spy @ 1405/2250 with Graphics Score 4519:  http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/13590472?

For whatever reason the CPU score suffered in that run a little bit.  Got a lower graphics, but slightly better overall, score @ 1400/2250:  http://www.3dmark.com/spy/145408

Maximum power consumption is down about 10W, according to GPU-Z, from my previous best runs with the reference cooler despite the additional clock speed.  I feel that putting the waterblock on will probably alleviate a little more room to push it further once the VRMs are nice and chilly.  As it is right now the core has maxed at 55C.  Core cooling will undoubtedly be superior with the waterblock, but adding heat from VRMs and RAM into the mix may offset the core temperature slightly.  These are results with the SilenX fans on "is my computer running?" mode, so there is some room to increase fan speed as well.

Next will be some Doom testing.  Tried the 1405/2250 last night and only got about 20 minutes of play until I got a brown screen. Unfortunately I found out the hard way that Doom/Steam have an issue with corrupting your save files if your computer crashes while playing.

Currently I have lost my 11 hours of progress...tried all the solutions I could find on various forums to no avail thus far  :sozo:

1400/2250 had a flawless Time Spy run, so I will try to dial down the few MHz and see if that makes a difference.  Going to try and get an average power consumption figure for Doom once I get the max playable OC nailed down.  Probably give it a go later tonight after doing a little work on my Integra.

Nice results so far thumb.gif

Have a read of this thread , some nice tools in there to get your over 1400 mhz.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1604589/rx-480-overclock-discussion/80#post_25357137

Seen as you have gone this far , a few more software/bios tweaks won't hurt i'm sure.

I'm going to save BIOS tweaks for after it's blocked.

Turned Doom on for a few minutes and checked VRM temp with IR. High 80s to low 90s across the board. Brown screem last night probably due to VRM temps. I'm going to fabricate a heatsink out of something...be back later with results

So far from a few reviews of Sapphire RX 480 Nitro+ OC, I saw a trend that the 4GB version can be overclock to 1400 easily while the 8GB stop at 1360. Anyone know why does this happen?

Increased load on the memory controller could account for the 40mhz difference I suppose if 4gb uses fewer chips

40mhz really doesn't make or break it

Could be the extra power necessary for the other 4GB of VRAM. Before I overclocked memory on my card it would hold stable 1350 at 37% power increase. Once I added memory OC of 250MHz the core suffered and wouldn't hold boost since the core/RAM were fighting over the little remaining power left. Pushed it back to +50% and the full gains of core/RAM were seen.

Have anybody been running these in crossfire for long periods of time with stock cooling?

Just want to make sure there are not anymore problems after the driver that fixed the power distribution.

For the cards that physically came with 4GB, how does the memory overclock? 2200 possible?

It stops at 1340 to be exact. 1360 and 1340 benchmark I seem to get the same score.
