Load is around 75C, but I've been trying to play with my fan curve and I set my target temp to 71 instead of 75 to try and get it to run cooler under load. Fans only ever go to 66% max so I turned the max up and lowered the target temp. I'd rather my fans constantly spinning at a low RPM and letting the idle temp stay around 50ish, I'm just used to a cooler idle temp, my HD6950 was usually around like 30C at idle, and then with the fans at 95% (lol) it was at 70C under load overclocked as far as I was able to push it.

I did follow the above advice and uninstalled Trixx since it doesn't like wattman. No OC on my Nitro yet (aside from stock) little scared to even attempt it since my temps are already so high. But I NEVER hear fans spool up so that's part of the 'problem'

A side note and sort of off topic, I can't seem to get my hyper 212 evo fan to change the RPMs. Ever. Never gets louder under load and according to my monitors the speed barely fluctuates. I'm talking sub-1000 RPM at all times. Doesn't make much sense to me, and it's allowing my max temp to be very high.

Just got my Sapphire Nitro + RX 480 in....pretty excited, since it is my first brand new, new to the market card.

Or at least, I WAS excited...

So I posted this on the AMD forums with no response and figured you guys might have some insight for me, see below:

I am having issues with my brand new Sapphire Nitro + RX 480 4gb. For some reason, usually randomly but it is aggravated by opening the Radeon Settings menu, I am getting the "Display Driver Stopped working and has recovered" error. For what its worth, I had to disable the motherboard splash screen because it was getting displayed all corrupted since I put the new card in, but I read that can be a gigabyte issue.

Here are my system specs:

CPU: Phenom ii 960t with unlocked cores (x6)
GPU: Sapphire Nitro+ RX 480 4gb
Motherboard: Gigabyte 970a-ud3 Rev. 1.1
PSU: OCZ ZT 750 watt
OS: Windows 10 64 bit

I originally had Windows 7, and I installed the drivers just over my existing ones. Tried running a heaven benchmark (to compare results to the 6970 I replaced) and it crashed right before it finished, but it looked great the whole time until that point. Then I totally cleaned the drivers out with DDU, reinstalled the latest drivers, then started seeing the "Display Driver stopped responding and has restarted" error, especially when I would go into the Radeon Settings menu. So I reformatted and installed Windows 10, same issues. Updated Motherboard BIOS, reinstalled windows 10 again (Since the BIOS update reset the factory defaults) and still have the issue. When it happens, usually I have the radeon settings open and the program crashes and is unusable.

Any Ideas from anyone? Hoping I dont have to RMA or anything, that would really deflate all of this excitement

*EDIT* I should mention I have tried the latest hotfix drivers and the version just before that so far

*EDIT2* Someone mentioned I should try turning on UEFI bios. I dont think my mobo supports full UEFI but I do have HybridEFI....does this sound like it could fix any issues?

The Wattman is known to crash but from what I know the app should crash not the driver itself.
IMHO you have a defective card and should return it to get your $ back or exchange it for a different new card if shop does that but most of the time it's best to return get money back and buy a different card even if it's the same type of card just different sample.

Would it not be wise to go through sapphire for warranty?

+1 on that, wattman crashes time to time, but not in the manner describes, proly bad card or damaged mobo.

I don't know how contracts are done in your country. In EU the contract is between customer and retailer, retailer-distributor, distributor-distributor, ... , distributor-manufacturer. While manufacturer will usually service the card for anyone if one wants to get money back or product exchange etc. it's all done with retailer as only they can get you the money back even if manufacturer issues a refund the money goes down through the whole chain as the contracts were made which also guarantees that you get the exact money back you paid not the excl. tax retail price manufacturer sells the cards in bulk for.

In Texas... get your guns and walk to the store defective card in one hand, gun in the other lol

Well like I say a few post ago, that problems usually are problems in heatsink or VRM you can't see it in the sensor of temperature because its partial, but I always recommend in this "rare" cases re-assemble the GPU
