My Sapphire HD6950 served me well in the time I used it, but I'm in LOVE with my nitro 470 8gb. Super solid feeling, the metal backplate is amazing and the card looks gorgeous. I'm really glad they changed the color from the orignal 'leaked' card from silver to black however. haha.

make sure you update your BIOS on your motherboard, because that could fix the issue. I've seen some people getting away with non-UEFI after they updated the BIOS on their motherboards, but my bet is on needing UEFI to completely mitigate any further issues. Remember, there's a good bit of power draw from the PCIE with these cards, too. Some older MOBO's won't handle that amount of draw.

I did go to a few other sources and read about this topic. It seem others agree with you that newer cards may require UEFI. I don't think power will have anything to do with it as lots of older cards drew as much or more power than these cards draw.

I agree 100% with updating the BIOS, as this may indeed fix the issue. From what I read, new motherboards require a new video card more than new video cards require a new motherboard. My motherboard has UEFI, but I'm not using it. I am using the regular BIOS setting, and the cards semt o be working well.

I will be interested in haring what the final solution is.

First Quake Live is crashing frequently with error message that program is not working anymore. Mostly it happens when I tab out or use windowmode, but I just cant get it to run stable. Only other game I tried so far was Doom and I didnt have any issues there.

Other issue is that my fan sometimes goes mental up to 2800rpm for no reason even when temps are fine.

Third issue is, that I frequently get black screen on desktop for just like a millisecond, but it still is annoying.

Otherwise Im happy, especially with the performance in Doom. But if i can not fix these issues in the next 12 days I have to send the card back and get a Nvidia card mad.gif. Dont want to support Nvidia though.

I was using latest drivers (16.9.2) in case that matters. Are any of these known issues and are there ways to fix them?

Do yourself a favor, if you decide to return your card, and you can afford a few more bucks, get an MSI RX480 Gaming X 8GB card. It has been getting excellent reviews, comes pre-overclocked with a little more room if you really want to push it, it has great VRMs, it has an extra metal back plate just for cooling the VRMs and memory chips, and the Twin Frozer cooler is a great cooler for keeping the card in good shape. It even has fancy RGB LEDs so you can set it up to match the interior of your case. I just got finished reading and watching quite a few more reviews on it, and pretty much all of them were great reviews. You may end up paying a few more bucks, but if you're not sure which card to get, and you don't want to wade through a lot of dry information about VRMs and power requirements, the MSI cards are a great choice.

I'm super content with my Sapphire Nitro 470 8gb card. And I couldn't even check the bios-uefi change because my mobo just has a dual UEFI bios lol

They're just blacklights, and I brightened that picture a little bit, you can deff see the lights, just due to how my case window is from where I'm sitting all I can see is the PHIRE.. haha IMO you can never have enough RGB.

To me this issue sounds more like its a general RX 480 / Crimson problem. Most likely the same problem will occur with the MSI 480. I will keep the Red Devil for a few more days and see if its fixable. If not I will probably go with a GTX 1070.
