16.10.1 "Power Efficiency" setting?

"Increases GPU performance per watt for improved power savings while maintaining graphics quality and performance".

Anybody know what this thing actually do, how it does it, and if it's really the bee's knees, why is it not on by default?

It changes the power hysteresis value, making it less likely that the card will upclock.

It is usually a good a way to save power with no real side-effects aside from lower maximum frame rates. Some games, however, really dislike it (such as Batman: Arkham City).

It can save a great deal of power while watching Youtube or browsing the web, though. Afterburner seems to turn it off when it sets its initial clocks, which is very annoying because I'd prefer for it to be on unless I launch Batman... as it's the only game I have that has a problem with it.

You can make profile just for Batman where it is off, can't you?

What to buy of RX 480 8GB, MSI or Nitro+? I read that Nitro+ has problems with throttling and that is pretty loud.

No, power efficiency is, sadly, only a global option.

A colleague of mine got the Nitro+, he did not have either of those issues.

I had a Nitro+ (RX 470) and aside from the odd no-boot video issue, it was a great card.

It did, however, push far more voltage than required, so under-volting was required. I think all RX 480/470 cards will throttle if the power limits aren't adjusted (in the BIOS by the AIB, or in the software by the user). Undervolting was all it took for my RX 470 (Nitro+) to not throttle at all. Same with my XFX RX 480 GTR I used to replace it.

Hi everyone! I am newbie there, but not in overclocking) Had a Palit GTX750 StormX 1Gb before with stock 1085mhz GPU and I had overclocked it to 1502 Mhz on maximum voltage in Afterburner and VRM custom cooling radiator.biggrin.gif Before that had HD6670 1Gb, but I don`t remember the results mad.gif
Now in AMD camp again with Sapphire RX460 DualX 2Gb, already have tried overclocking it and 1304Mhz GPU clocks are the best yet thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif And this is with Arctic cooling MX4 on GPU, plus two Deepcool UF 80`s on aluminium radiator and stock vents on back - 66-70C in Evolve(2k interactive game - very undfriendly with this card, even GTA5 runs at higher clocks!)

If somebody wants I can make a photos of my rig and I am looking for ideas and further overclocking! thumb.gif

Hey guys.....back again. lol

Since AMD has released a few new drivers, I thought I would run some benchmarks to see if they are improving.

First let me say, that this card(Powercolor Red Devil RX470 4GB) will not be overclocked. It is going in my son's computer.

I use the same settings for everything on this card that I use on my 970's.

The spreadsheet is listed just how I run them. If I have a driver crash, I restart the whole test. So if it crashes on The Division, I start over with Valley.

Settings:
i7-4770@4.0ghz RX470 1270/7000@1.150v
+25% Power

Valley-2 runs
Heaven-2 runs
Time Spy-2 runs (default is 1440)
Firestrike-2 runs
The Division-2 runs Ultra
The Division-2 runs High

Powercolor RX470 1270/7000@1.150v Benchmarks Drivers 16.8.2-16.10.1

Meh...on the drivers. I'm sure they may help some with overclocking issues or perhaps crossfire, but I don't see much improvement really. The results all seem to be within the margin of error.

FYI, no driver crashes. thumb.gif I also used MSI Afterburner to add the power. Wattman seemed to crash a lot when I was strictly using it on previous drivers.

I will say, for a 200.00(US) card, it performs pretty good.

I did manage to capture all the voltages/power/core speed/etc for the last three drivers. I really have no idea if these are good or not. The temps look great to me. The core voltage could probably be dialed back a bit, but as I said, it's going in my son's rig, and he won't be messing with any settings.

HWiNFO64 and GPU-Z 16.9.2: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

HWiNFO64 and GPU-Z 16.10.1: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Note: I also have a spreadsheet for my GTX 970's. If anyone would like to take a look to compare or whatever. The only difference is it's +12% on the power, otherwise all the settings are the same.

GTX970 Single Card v SLI 1506/8000@1.231v Driver Benchmarks

I have quite a few more drivers on that spreadsheet.

If you see a error...please PM me and I will see what happened. It's getting tough keeping up with benchmarks on two cards... wheee.gif

What tool do you guys use?

I'm using Sapphire Trixx for my Nitro 470, but noticed that the voltage slider keeps automatically changing.

I'll set a -80mv undervolt and it will slip to -78mv. I'll set it to -75mv and it will slip to -72mv.

Is it just rounding it to the nearest voltage?
