I run mine at .975V with said fan settings and target 60C. But I'm partially deaf, so the noise is not a problem for me smile.gif

EDIT: Also a quick note - you should set a high minimum RPM, because heat builds up, if you don't get rid of it early on in the load cycle, it may become unmanageable 5 or 10 minutes later. Essentially you could have 60C at 3500 RPM, or 60C at 4500 RPM, depending on how aggressive it spins up when it senses load.

Got the ref cooler because free 4G to 8G unlock smile.gif Loweving the minimum RPM appears to significantly affect idle spin as well which is very strange - is this because of the way BIOS works? If I go above, say, 2400RPM min my idle spin goes up to 1400RPM or so and is audible which makes no sense.. And When I select 2400 RPM minimum the card reaches its target but the fan spin rate is WAAAAY below 2400 RPM for no reason - I just don't get how the fan controls work for this card like at all frown.gif

If you want silence, set your clocks to ~1100 and voltage to ~900mv. That last 166mhz generates a lot of extra heat.

Maybe I will do this and be done. My CPU is only an OC'ed FX 8300 so I doubt I'd be losing out on much, and the extra comfort would be nice smile.gif

EDIT: Maybe I should invest in an aftermarket cooler? Is there a decent choice here?

Arctic Accelero series is always good.

On what you mentioned, I think I read somewhere that there is a resistor somewhere along the path that feeds less voltage to the fan, so even though it is PWM, and the driver thinks it's setting it to 2400, it is underfed and does 1000 RPM less. My 470 has the 480 ref cooler and I see the same behavior. I thought it's because it is 470, but apparently 480's have that too.

Also, min RPM is the same as idle RPM, unfortunately only a custom BIOS can allow for a separate idle state for the fan, like the Nitro+ has.

Whaaaaat? The strange thing is this behaviour is only exhibited for min. RPM - for max RPM the car actually reaches what I set.. See:

I set 1800-2400 it starts at 1100 and goes up to 2400.
I set 2000-2600 it starts at 1300 and goes up to 2600
I set 2200-2600 it starts at 1500 and goes up to 2600

So basically for min. RPM there is around a 35% drop off and that's what you get for idle and there's no way to manually set idle RPM. That's pretty garbage frown.gif I My main issue is that I get annoying idle fan noise with any min. RPM beyond 1,300 and if I set my min RPM beyond 2,000 my idle fan speed becomes annoying.. *sigh* Why ATI, why?..

I'll look into the Accelero coolers, no idea what I need there though frown.gif Mono? TT2? TT3?

That behavior is from the acoustic throttling setting. The fan will err on the low side unless you max that setting.

The card uses the RPM signal in conjunction with the PWM output to hit a desired target, I can get 5200-5600 RPM out of mine without mods.

If you BIOS mod, this is what I set my fan settings to...

Temp. Hysteresis: 3
Min. Temp (C): 40
Med. Temp (C): 60
High Temp (C): 80
Max Temp (C): 109
Min PWM (%): 20
Med PWM (%): 50
High PWM (%): 75
Max PWM (%): 100
Max RPM: 3200
Sensitivity: 4836
Acoustic Limit (MHz): 700

Mostly stock with a higher "Med PWM", Lower "Med/High Temp", Higher "Max RPM". Fan ramps up much faster, but is not too loud.
You may have to reset RSC/WattMan to defaults for the changes to take effect.

Oh.. So if I pull the Acoustic Limit slider in Wattman to the left completely it will ramp up to my max fan speed faster/earlier? I thought this affected the slowdown of the fans rather than the speed up?

To the right, you do not want it to limit things for "acoustic" reasons. I really dont play with RSC anymore, I just flash the card how I want it for 24/7 usage. It just works now, no fiddling with OC software and no thermal throttling because the fan profile is bad.

I think it determines how low it will throttle before it takes the fan above the target RPM setting. Once again, I dont futz with RSC anymore. Just fire/forget with a BIOS flash and its done.
