What about pressure? It's only only contact that matters, without the proper pressure, the TIM can start to boil and leak.

make sure the fasteners are tightened properly then. Also check fans for proper operation, you may need to modify your fan profile since the RPM range is different (assuming you are running them off the card).

i tightened it as tight i could do by hands, bit more and i think im gonna damage the pcb.

If i set up the RPM manually, ill do get better temps, but they have to spin really fast. My Target temperature of 75 °C can only get reached if i set the fans manually to really high rpm.

Something must be really screwed.

Defective cooler? It's not unheard of, if the base is uneven, or tilted, or concave, even in a way not immediately noticeable, could affect temps.

yeah maybe. But need to get sure about this somehow. Its such a hassle to send back an GPU cooler with all that pieces + its unfair for the retailer if a damaged cooler is not the case.

Edit: Oh and i forgot to say that my clock rate is throttled to ~800 mhz after some minutes of use. Is that even possible? I use ASUS GPU Tweak since its an Asus Reference Card.

This really sounds more like a GPU contact issue than anything else.. Are you sure that it's 100% contact and not tilted to any side due to contact with something other than the GPU die?

im at work atm. Ill check on it tonight and give you feedback. I think im just gonna replace the whole stock cooling plate to make sure nothing is in the way.

still: the cooling fins of the gpu cooler were freaking hot under load. So theres definitely some heat transfer going on.

Would you recommend?

I recommend that dual mounted fan, your RX 480 will be very happy with that (i use that kind of mounting though but with 2 120mm fan) remember to remove your standart blower fan too

Before i install prolima MK 13 i do this, the temps are good while gaming without the jet engine sound.

Those are 2 standart 1100 rpm coolermaster 12cm fan, if you have a noctua or other better fan it will be a good choice for reducing the sound

Correction: that was only one fan i forgot

I did as well. 0 results also. For some reason I couldn't get wattman to work properly and any setting no matter how small had negative results on my 480. AB doesn't work on my card either. Worked fine on my 390 tho. Stuck using Trixx.
