I would uninstall the drivers, use DDU and reinstall the stable/previous drivers. I had that same issue with the 16.10.1's. I went back to the 16.9.2 and no more issues.

Got my RX480 Gaming X today, and I'm not amused. Not amused at all. The power draw and heat isn't too bad as it undervolts well enough, but the noise, oh god the noise... As soon as the clocks ramp up it starts buzzing. Not quite coil whine, a much lower pitched noise, but it's coming from one of the components, not the fans, I checked. It get louder as FPS increases, but even locked to 60FPS it's louder than all of my fans. I've tried over/underclocking the card and it does remedy the problem somewhat if I get below 1077Mhz, but that's less than ideal. Any other ways of fixing it or should I just return it?

Oh, and MadVR doesn't work anymore. Apparently it's a driver issue.

That is, in fact, coil whine. Its just not at a high enough frequency to produce the signature noise associated with that.

You should set it on a benchmark loop for 8+ hours and see if it settles down. If its still very noisy after 8-16hrs of burn in I would send it back.

another question, i tried some stuff and i think/thought i finaly got my arctic twin III silent and efficient, 1200 rpm at 65 °C on full load (Doom) - then, i checked wattman and saw that the GPU is throtteling, shouldnt it be up to 1306 permanently? Am i interpreting the orange line right or do i miss something? So the throtteling is the result by giving me 65°C on 1200 rpm ? If yes, why doesnt the fans speed up instead of throtteling the clock?

EDIT: As soon i overclock my ram to 2100 mhz, my gpu clock goes instantly down under 1000 and i experience a lot of stuttering while gaming - with temperatures around 60, VRM 70. Even if undervolt i experience throttling.

Are you using windows 10? If so, and the update came from Microsoft, you may be screwed.

Use system restore to go back to a restore point from before the issue started. Make sure you have removed any driver installation files and shut off any auto update function that may be turned on for the video card driver and optional windows updates. That should be all there is to it in Windows 7.
If you are using windows 10, still do the same thing but if you have the pro version go into updates and find that particular update. You should be able to delay it, but unfortunately you cannot prevent it from coming back eventually. If I was you I would use the AMD Driver removal tool to completely strip out all video card drivers and software, reboot and install the update again. Keep your fingers crossed that the fault is gone afterwards.
This is why I did not install Windows 10 on my PC.

Been using 10 since it came out haven't had an issue that was windows fault so while this may help his situation, this is anecdotal to claim it as a reason to not have 10.

thanks, and yeah I rolled the driver back, used DDU to remove it, but did the same thing when I got home from work tonight. I've already decided to chuck these cards and get back to team green, I gave it the ol' college try with AMD and I've regretted the decision since installed the cards. That being said, they do really well gaming at 4K, there's just too many gaming-unrelated driver issues for me.

Hello, finally I'm buying sapphire rx 470 nitro. Thanks to ronnin426850 for the recommendation. I have yet to playing game with it, I only test it with 3dmark firestrike.
My impression is wow, this card fan is so loud. Compare to my previous graphic card msi twin frozr 7870 ---> his r9 380x, I think this card is the loudest.

Oh yes, I have question. I'm using afterburner 4.2.0 to see fps, temperature. But why I can't see fan temp, and fan speed now? When I'm using 380x, all the osd option is available.

You DDU and reinstall the drivers? I can see fan speed just fine on my nitro 470
