hayguise,

The flimsy pcb bends on the reference rx480. I had the same problem with both the weight of my waterblock and pressure from the tube bend going from my cpu block to the gpu. I converted my case to lay flat rather than in a tower position. I moved my reservoir and one of my radiators to the outside of the case to make filling and draining easier and so the reservoir would be pointing vertical. I also changed the flow so it goes pum\res->cpu->360rad->420rad->gpu->240rad->pump/res from pump\res->cpu->gpu->360->420->240->pump/res. I found that the screw position on the back bracket where it fastens to the case was also a hair off and causing a slight bend in the pcb. Could be my case is slightly bent from being both cut to pieces and moved and tilted around when draining/filling. Anyway my pcb isn't bending now, but I don't have a backplate.

Here's how it was at first:

Then I did this to add a support post and take some of the tube pressure off and improve flow by using ek fittings on the ek block:

Here's with the changes:

Before changing it to not have the cpu going directly to the gpu on the tubes I was still getting about as much bend as you're getting with the back plate. Maybe it's the weight of the heat sink or the position of the back screw that holds the card down?

No source, so I wouldn't trust anything on that link for now.

I'll check out your mini monitor thread. Sounds interesting.

Yes! That's one big reason why I want to get one of the 7" screens, beefier resolution and a bit more real estate so it'll be easier to get things sized properly enough to read. I have to lean in to read some of the smaller numbers and stuff, but it beats having to leave my phone on constantly to see it, plus I can read the time from my bed, so when my TV is off I can still see what time it is haha.

And if your screen has all those extra inputs/outputs I can now understand why it cost so much, mine just came with the screen and bracket, I already had extra cables and I have no need to use VGA or A/V cables for my case screen (I do have other projects that would benefit from that, however)

Regardless, I don't think I'll ever have a PC without one since I've done this, I use it all the time and it's indispensible. Even after I get a second actual monitor, I'll still use it, because I dig my desktop being as clean as possible. I wouldn't mind seeing some pics of the rear and sides of the screen you got if you get a chance, maybe PM me since it's a little off topic from this thread (sorry admins)

HERE THIS IS ON TOPIC!! 470 Nitro 8GB after a few sessions of hours of Fallout 4. Mostly in the upper 50s to 60fps but dips in areas with a lot of stuff (settlements and towns) due to my CPU bottlenecking it. I get 60+FPS in DOOM on nightmare with the same temps and stuff. This is all stock, I haven't done anything other than a custom fan curve and lowered my target temp to 65. I don't understand everyone saying how the Nitro cards are hot and loud.... I've only ever heard mine when I ran the fancheck and they were at 100%, and I've never had temps higher than 80-82C prior to changing the fan curve. (Also mention the higher temps there were seen when the driver issue was causing all cards to run hotter for no apparent reason)

What do you guys think about the RX 480 for 1440p? I know it won't max everything but I don't mind turning stuff down a bit to maintain 60+ FPS. GTX 1070 (which is often recommended for 1440p) is a bit expensive for me. I'd be upgrading from a Radeon HD 6950 2GB biggrin.gif

I had the sapphire dirt2 version of the same card, I only run 1080, but the 470 I got runs my 40" led @60FPS on ultra, and I've seen really good benchmarks for 1440 on some of the 480's. I have the Nitro 470 8gb, and the MSI, Sapphire and XFX 480s are supposed to all run 1440 pretty well. And it seems like the prices for the 480s are starting to hit that $200 mark (with some rebates and stuff) but most can be got for around $230-$250 for an 8Gb card. I wouldn't reccomend only getting a 4gb, because if you decide to go 4k in the future you can crossfire 2 8gb cards and they run really great also.

My Sapphire RX 480 Nitro+ 8 GB has a strange issue, fan RPM value is stuck at 0 RPM in Wattman and HWiNFO64. Sapphire Trixx 6.1.0 beta fan test fails. Fans are spinning normally and respond to manual controls in Wattman, but show null values in hardware monitoring software. It seems to me hardware failure. Should I return card to retailer for RMA?
