Same as before, silicon lottery, there are 480 GTRs that run like crap and then you have the cherry picked gold cards sent to reviewers or some random reviewer who actually bought one from retail store being lucky and gaining popularity. I've also seen 480 GTRs from users that run hot and loud, 75C+ 2000rpm+.
There are crazy differences on 1060s too sometimes but none so popular as that JayZ cherry picked 480 GTR gold card.

Sometimes these crazy results can also be reported by users by mistake, they run Vsync ON but don't say so and then magically their card only runs at 60W and cold and quiet... well no wonder when it's running at 60% usage due to Vsync yet they boast about how awesome the card is how cool and quiet, because they were used to some old powerhog like 5xx or 2xx/3xx.

The percentage difference is far beyond silicon lottery explanation though...
Andvsince there has been report about those revB chips, that seems much more likely.

We are talking about 100vs 160 (and more like 200 usually) watts here...

Now I dont mean to imply all new xfx gtr s are like this and obviously the review samples may very well be golden revB chips and production samples not 100% revB yet but still this is a very interesting topic for us to investigate I believe!

I noticed the variation in reviews for the GTR 480s right after that Jayz video was posted, Got me curious. I'm intersted to find out if there are revised 480's coming out.

Yeah Sapphire pushed to shops even slower 480 8GB Nitro, it has 10 in the code, not 07, not 20, but 10. Runs max boost something like 1276MHz only. I doubt there are any new revised chips coming out anytime soon. There is also a difference between measuring power using sophisticated methods and nubing it like JayZ with power reported from the GPU via software. These two simply aren't comparable.

As far as I am aware AMD rather plans to kill the P10 when Vega rolls out, replace it. But who knows if that is going to apply to all segments of the market.
If they indeed start rolling out better P10 chips that do perform this much better I bet they would use the proposed RX 485, 475 naming to get more sales.

I would beg someone to tell me which one is the best RX 480, cooling and PCB (need to be strong only for air, 24/7).
ASUS seems to be little expensive.
MSI, GIGABYTE, XFX, Powercolor, HIS or NITRO?

Please help and many thanks in advance.

I'd recommend the MSI Gaming X 8G. The cooler is phenomenal. I've run benchmarks at 1470 / 2200 and temps only reached 68C with fan reaching 93%. Afterburner showed up to 250 Watts sustained load. It's a champ.

That's only for "flagship" cards for those manufacturers (G1, Gaming X, Strix and so on).
PCB; ASUS > XFX/EVGA > MSI/Reference > Gigabyte > Powercolor
Cooling; MSI/ASUS/Powercolor > XFX/EVGA/Gigabyte > Reference
Or something like that, I'm not entirely sure.

Bought my second Nitro 480. This one is a 1342 version and seems much, much better than the 1306Mhz card I returned.

Stable overclock 1400Mhz core, 2180Mhz memory, 60% fan speed, +42 mv using Trixx.

Heaven 4.0 benchmark, Extreme preset:

FPS - 73
SCORE - 1840
Min. FPS - 30.5
Max. FPS - 156.4

Max temp.: 59 C.

Really pleased. Will see how far this one can be overclocked. Temperature-wise, it looks like it can go a little further at least.

Oh, good to know, it seems the Rev.B chips are more than just a rumor smile.gif

Thanks man, I had been using +66mV at 1400 but after running Heaven at your settings it's still very stable with no artifacts and uses 20W less to boot. My best run was at 1440 MHz at +78mV but there were a few "starburst" artifacts. Do you know your ASIC quality? GPU-Z reports mine at 86.5%, I think I got lucky.
