Damn.... I've been using HWMon until now, and I thought my GPU does not have a VRM temp sensor because it is reference. That screenshot from HWiNFO got me to download it and check there and voila - i see my VRM temps. On to stress testing! smile.gif

There's only one other thing that could be the issue, and that's the fact that I only have one intake fan on my case. I'm devising a case mod to add a 140mm to where my 5.25" bays are so I can add a second intake fan at least. Will post results/updates after I'm finished, shouldn't be too much of a "mod" since the 140 fits almost perfectly in the space of my 3X5.25" bays. Most likely I'll just zip tie it, since there obviously won't be any screw mounting points, but that should work just fine.

I found a pic of your cooler, you can see the strip of aluminum with thermal tape where it goes over the VRM MOSFETs, either it's not making good contact or the MOSFETs are running in spec. I don't know what MOSFETs Sapphire put on that card and I can't find any reviews that look closely at the power delivery.

You're running 2000MHz on that RAM with zero errors? That's impressive. You're about dead even with the 480, kudos!

haha glad I could be of service! I use HWinfo to give the specs to my mini-monitor, it's been updated a few times recently to add more capabilities. So far I haven't found anything I need that isn't on there.

There IS a video floating around of the 480 nitro, which from what i've read exactly the same minus a phase?

as far as no memory errors, that's in Far Cry 4, my extremely modded Fallout 4 I get around 6-7 per session. But sometimes I don't get any at all. Depends on the playthrough. I'm not sure I feel confident enough to dissasemble my card to make sure everything's seated properly and whatnot. Even IF I decide to void the warranty. I haven't messed with ANY settings other than the fan yet. No under/overclocking or anything like that. At the very least I'm interested in undervolting to see if I could lower the almost 200W power draw a little bit, and see if that helps with my VRM temps.

After 30 min of Firestrike Graphics Test 2 on Loop, which should be mid-way between gaming and Furmark in load, I get 61C max core temp and 71C max VRM temp. I'd say I'm pretty happy with it, temps were very stable towards the end, so I don't think they'll rise much further if I keep testing, also A/C is on and it's pretty warm in the room.

You can clearly see the six thermal pads for the six MOSFETs You have a full 6-phase power delivery (EDIT: no). I see no reason to believe it's any different than the 480 Nitro+, which has an excellent VRM setup (EDIT: other than the missing phase(s). The MSI setup is nothing special, it's overkill like the reference card but it's not as insane as the Nitro+ or GTR or Strixx. Looking at my Heaven loop I pulled a peak of about 265A through the core and 134A from the VRM. Frankly I don't know the difference, maybe someone here can explain that. Looking at your values of 174A and 87A respectively, and considering that your VRM has more capability and is by any measure superior (if it's the same as the Nitro 480), it follows that unless you're way over 100C on the VRM you've got plenty of headroom. I'm pretty sure you could go as hot as 130C before you started running out of current. Don't quote me on that tongue.gif

I'm just curious why your Sapphire Nitro+ VRM runs hotter than my MSI Gaming X. Maybe it's my two 140mm and two 120mm intake fans and the grille on the side of the case near the graphics card.

AFAIK there is no 470 with 6-phase VRM. This image seems to confirm:

What is the source on that pic? I'm willing to bet my shoes it's actually a photo of the 480 cooler, which is the same cooler, but has thermal pads for all phases.

EDIT: Waait, no, take a very close look at that photo - there are 6 pads, but only 4 look deformed from being pressed to a chip, 2 look intact, like brand new. Perhaps that explains it?

Wow, good eye. I see it too. That might explain high VRM temps then, if they apply the pads to the cooler with a template they could miss the MOSFETs significantly.

Was from kitguru: http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/zardon/sapphire-rx-470-nitro-oc-4gb-review/
And now that I look at it again I see the pic you posted is the same card. Thanks!
