Using a universal core only vga block on the RX 480 is pretty nice way to keep the cost down since the base plate and blower of the ref card can keep the vrm and vram well cool enough.

Waiting for XFX or anyone else who may offer a cheap 480 with a decent cooling. I don't care for clocks, I would rather buy a unbinned card at reference speeds than a binned Sapphire with a premium price.

MSI Gaming review; Just as quiet as the devil with 2 fans. Looks like same price $269 for 8GB though.

Also interesting to see Afterburner beta in the overclocking section with +100mV shown for 1.24V on the GPU core. They only managed 1370 core with that voltage which just doesn't seem right from the results people are getting here with reference boards.

What clocks/settings you running?

Not too shabby pending settings.

How about after a longer duration? Temps definitely start creeping after more than 2-3 minutes of load.

1400 core 2250 ram core @ 1.175v never really noticed the ram vrm temp while playing games but it can't be too much higher and the ref 480's vrm has more than enough power delivery capability even at it's max rated temps of 125C so anything well below that is still overkill unless you're doing like ln2 overclocking

I wanted to keep the backplate and baseplate on. The stock base plate interferes so adding a 1mm shim you can clear it.

480 needs undervolting if anything in a way.
As long as they keep the price low I'm happy with MSI. But 1060 goes for $259 right now which makes a very tempting option. I just don't like how cut down it is and how NV treats their older cards when it comes to drivers.

Nvidia mid-range cards don't seem to have the longevity that AMDs cards do though...If you were buying an Nvidia card the best bet would be a currently discounted 970, or a 1070 IMO.

Yeah but I can't find any at decent prices.
I can even find cheaper 1060 and some reference 480s but all out of stock. There is simply a huge shortage on the new GPUs, NV because many are upgrading from old cards and on AMD IMHO probably because of yet another mining craze which ordered crap load of reference cards.
