Pretty sure you didn't wink.gif It's fine if you used WattMan or one of the manufacturer tools to do that. I'd say it's a gray area if you flashed ROM, as you can flash it back to stock.
Those temps seem really high if the card is getting enough air and your case isn't overly hot. Played some Witcher just a bit earlier, fans set to 60%, 69C 65C core, 71C 66C VRM, 22C at the intake.

EDIT: blegh, looked at the wrong screenshot. 69-71C was with the fans set to 50%.

I'm submitting a ticket to them as we speak. Lowest I think I've seen my VRM1 is around 80C? But my max is almost always above 90 when I game.

My temps didn't change from when I only had 1 intake fan to when I modded in a second, CPU temps dropped by 20C, but GPU temps stayed about the same.

I used wattman, and didn't flash anything, just raised power limit, lowered voltages and adjusted fan curve.

120X1 intake up front
140X1 intake up front
120X2 exhaust up top
120X1 exhaust in the rear.
Psu is self-looping (bottom mounted with the fan on the bottom, but Ive seen some videos recommending flipping it to suck air from the case to act as an extra exhaust)

Ambient air temps 20-25C

Not sure it's worth submitting a ticket yet, but I'd be interested what they'll reply...
Try turning off the exhaust fan at the top of the case (the one closer to the front of the case) as it's mostly just taking out fresh air that your front intake just sucked into the case.
Room temps don't matter much, unless you're on an open bench, temps inside the case can be a bit higher.

Do you run multi-monitor or something? It doesn't look like your card downclocks properly.

Got Doom, wanted to previously, and I figure it'll be a better comparison... Downloading it right now, but 60 gigs? Jesus...

Yeah lol I have the season pass and my Doom folder is at 70gb. Its pretty huge. (Snapmap probably has a lot to do with it)

As far as that fan goes, I never thought about it, I'll disconnect it and see if it does anything for temps anywhere. Sapphire responded to me, and they said

"Are you experiencing any performance decrease or issues? VRM usually can with stand 120c temp range, anything higher will be consider overheating." That's it. Sooooo either I'm gonna take my card apart to see whats going on (wish I had thermal padding) and redo the TIM with some arctic silver when I put it back together. (I wanna point out I'm really not comfortable taking it apart, and probably WON'T be doing that anytime soon)

Welp. Guess I just have a hot card. Maybe that means I can OC it more.. NOT. ***** with my 89% ASIC I'm lucky to be getting my stock-overclock. I had to undervolt it just to hit that all the time...

And what do you mean about it not downclocking properly? It sits around 300mhz at idle, my memory just always stays at 2000mhz.

I bought one of these when I first got my card. I mounted it right below the card to feed it fresh air. It actually helped quite a bit...and cheap too.

Here is just one link from eBay...there are more around. I think it shipped from mainland China...took maybe 10 days to get to me in NC.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Video-Card-Dual-Mount-Rack-PCI-Slot-Bracket-for-2-pcs-80MM-90MM-PC-Case-Fan-/282084903284?hash=item41ad920974:g:VykAAOSwzJ5XdT3k

Note: I had two Bgears 90mm mounted on it. Hooked to my fan controller so I could up the speed when I started gaming or whatever. I found it really helpful when I was using Folding@home. That is a beast of a workout for a GPU.

Note II: I would should suggest either MX-4 for TIM, or ThermalGrizzly. The TG is high priced, but man it works really well. I have it on my CPU. I have Noctua NT-H1 on both my GPU's. It's just a tad better than the MX-4.

Nah, its mostly just analyzing GPU performance and what games demand over the last 15 years.

If Vega has about double the capability of Polaris, it should be in the ballpark of being able to utilize ~500gb/s of bandwidth and 16gb of VRAM. Though it is likely to be somewhat above 2xPolaris in capability if they make improvements in efficiency, pushing usable bandwidth into the 600-700gb/s range. That would put it closer to being able to push 40 FPS with 16gb of assets being used per frame, up from 30 FPS / 8gb capability of the RX 480.

If that is doable, performance should be 2.2x Polaris in performance (squarely in Titan XP territory). Though all of these numbers are coming straight out of thin air and are pure speculation.

Sapphire supports last message to me was
"No problem, just keep an eye out on the performance, if anything weird starts happening that could mean its overheating, but if the card continues to work without showing any performance decrease, you should be fine."

So.... I guess I do nothing. I'm going to attempt to move some cables around in my case and see if I can get it better airflow, but as-is there's plenty getting to it. Last resort is to buy new thermal padding and teardown my card (which I would record and post, since I haven't found a 470 nitro teardown at all) see if there was anything missing or whatnot and replace it all anyways. Really DON'T want to do this to my fairly new card, because I just have a fear I'll break it. Ohhh anxiety.

I had thought of getting something like that, but I get plenty of cool air to my GPU, adding a second intake did nothing for my temps on it. As far as TIM goes, is there anything wrong with what I have now? I mean, I REALLY doubt I'll be taking my card the entire way apart (I did just get finished removing the backplate and readjusting THAT thermal pad, and peeking under my shroud to make sure all my VRMs had thermal pads on them, looks like they do) but if I do I'm going to make sure I have everything I need to put it all back together. New thermal padding from here and I guess this thermal paste? Or is this the stuff I would need? Ugh. I just don't want to break anything and don't want my card to fry itself. lol.

If you're not comfortable with taking it apart - don't. At this point, like Sapphire rep said, it's not causing any issues, it's just kind of curious why temps are so high. Do you maybe have a thermometer with a remote probe? Something like this or more commonly found at home - this aquarium thermometer. You could place the probe near the cards fans to see what air temp it's actually getting. Hell, try running with the side of the case off and a fan pointed at the card. If you already have a spare fan it'll only take a couple of minutes and rule out any airflow issues.

I'm assuming you have the 8GB card. Have you tried undervolting the IMC (it's labeled either as memory or RAM in WattMan)? I'm guessing it's at 1.025V? Obviously not all chips are created equal, but mine runs without any errors at 0,925V. Just watch out for GPU memory errors on HWInfo. It's not going to help your load temperatures, but it might reduce your idle temps just a tad. It's been said before in this thread (I think), but it looks like core voltage can't be set lower than IMC voltage.

I used MX-4 and Arctic Thermal Pad on my card. While Arctic products (despite all the bragging on their website tongue.gif) are definitely not the "best on the market" they're solid performers, easy to work with and cheap. I got basically the same temperatures as before, which means Sapphire doesn't use bottom of the barrel TIM. I'm not sure replacing it with some nameless 3.2w/m-K pad will yield you the results you'd like. Then again, I remember reading about one guy who disassembled his RX480 (or was it RX470?) to find the thermal pads still wrapped in protective plastic film, not sure if it was a Sapphire card or some other manufacturer.

Hows it going everyone came here for some advice, I did a good amount of research on the Rx 480 and tried to find the one i believed was best for me anyways after a long search i found the XFX 480 GTR Black Edition which seemed like a winner in my eyes, I received the card yesterday checked the ASIC and found a score of 61.2% on whats suppose to be one of the best 480's out there. You guys think I should request a RMA on the card? I mean I got this beauty to overclock it and starting with a higher binned card usually means a half way decent silicon.... Also with the rma how should I go about it? Sitting at 60c just typing this around 70-75 in games no overclock also only gamed for a few hours on it and that was with just overwatch.

I think it's all a matter of luck, in every brand there is a chance to get a golden chip or some higher quality one, i remember when a Youtube tech reviewer JayzTwoCents got a really good XFX RX 480 GTR that clocked to 1475 Mhz Core Clock with ease and good temps here is the proof https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWASNajSdpg and because of that people started thinking that ALL the GPU's from that brand would be the same...yet it's all about the Silicon Lottery like in CPU's, but that's just my Honest Opinion. Maybe someone here has a better answer i hope i helped biggrin.gif Unless there is some real problems with the card RMA it.
