If Vega has about double the capability of Polaris, it should be in the ballpark of being able to utilize ~500gb/s of bandwidth and 16gb of VRAM. Though it is likely to be somewhat above 2xPolaris in capability if they make improvements in efficiency, pushing usable bandwidth into the 600-700gb/s range. That would put it closer to being able to push 40 FPS with 16gb of assets being used per frame, up from 30 FPS / 8gb capability of the RX 480.

If that is doable, performance should be 2.2x Polaris in performance (squarely in Titan XP territory). Though all of these numbers are coming straight out of thin air and are pure speculation.

I really want that AMD pull this off, and regain some of all that lost marketshare, it almost feel like a monopoly right now, little innovation on new products and sky high prices, thanks for the replay good person biggrin.gif

You guys think I should request a RMA on the card? I mean I got this beauty to overclock it and starting with a higher binned card usually means a half way decent silicon.... Also with the rma how should I go about it? Sitting at 60c just typing this around 70-75 in games no overclock also only gamed for a few hours on it and that was with just overwatch.

ASIC does not directly translate into clock speed advantage. I have an 85% ASIC card and 1400 is very difficult to achieve. Others with cards in the low 90's are not getting much better results either, and what little extra they are getting is likely due to better cooling.

60c is what the card targets for idle AFAIK. It should even stop the fans completely if it can hit 60c without them. 70-75c is normal operating temp, the chip is designed to run in the 80-90c range.

I have an 89% ASIC and my card runs around 75C max 65-70 average with 75-80% fan useage. I have my fans set to come on when it hits 50C so my idle is usually around there. I hit 100C+ max on my VRM1 temps during almost every gaming session though. Which is weird because my VRM2 temps are like 30C max. I haven't overclocked my card yet, just undervolted it.

And an update to my previous posts, I took the backplate off and the cooler and just moved the card out enough to look at my VRMs with a flashlight, and it looks like they're all covered with a thermal pad. I'm not saying they look like they're installed 100% correctly, but they're at least over top of all the VRMs from what I can see. That's all the further I dared venture as far as dissasembly goes. I'm going to pick up some thermal padding and some mx4 and after that gets here I may try my luck taking it the whole way apart and replacing the thermal padding and TIM just to see if that changes anything. Sure it's safe, but if I overclock it at all I'm going to go way over that 120C threshold real fast.

VRM 2 only covers memory operation, it should never be 'hot'. VRM 1 is core voltage and it should be quite hot, I was seeing something like 80-90c on a reference card at stock voltage. And I have seen 100+ with ~1.2v/1400 core. Keep in mind that my card is only 4 phase.

I do not have any personal experience with the GTR or Nitro boards, so I cant say for sure what the best approach to correcting high VRM temps would be.

Anyone here playing at 144hz 1440p? I still cant get my display to go above 71hz with my rx480. I could do full 144hz on my 780. Really bumming me out. Thinking about selling and getting a 1070. I tried to give AMD a chance but Im at a loss. Ive already Rma'd one 480 so Im not sure what else to do.

Hello,

Is that normal, playing doom, and the vrm hit 97cdeg, playing 10minutes.
Normally if I run firestrike and spy benchmark only 65cdeg on vrm.

My both r480 the reference using waterblock with stock black heatsink for vrm n memory. And only 47cdeg on max.

All playing at stock clock/speed for ram n gpu, n 16.11.4 driver.
