So that's why nvidia is going so well in DX11, because it add a tons of horse power due to the high clock gain on pascal chip, where amd just didn't use the DX12 features on DX11, but get nice gain on DX12 api.

I am glad i knew to somehow explain it. biggrin.gif

My GPU is running too hot, and underclocks while trying to OC, ¿is the RX480 Sapphire Nitro +OC 8GB a bad overclocker? it runs too hot IMO, ¿anyone having trouble? ¿is a repaste needed here? also ¿what is the best method for a gpu with naked die?

When the fans on the GPU are off, temps will be higher - and as the VRM extrusion from the heatsink is doubly reliant on airflow as radiating the heat passively is inhibited by the bulk of the heatsink and shroud above it. The important thing is what happens under heavy load - and my VRMs barely exceed 70C under load... overclocked to the max. But they idle, like yours, at about 55C (without side fans - 45C with them).

That's not hot at all. 55c is nothing to a VRM.

Yeah thx i saw it, but like he said himself, i think this is a really good asics card, surely binned, a usual GTR with a decent asics will get 1400Mhz+ under water easily, especially being sure that u will use the 6pin power to feed your vrm, and u can do this easily with the wattmantool that u can find on the forum.

So I take it just like what everyone says Nvidia is better at DX11 than AMD and in DX12 AMD is supposed to be better or at least gain some performance back.

Oh and what about the fact that Nvidia drivers replace most of the game shaders on DX11 with their own or something along those line that I've heard? thinking.gif

Yea man I heard the Sapphire doesn't have that great of a cooler. You can see the heatsink is lacking mass compared to others like the XFX for example. The VRM is pretty good though. But damn 83C and underclocking with 3200+RPM fan? You sure your case ventilation is alright because the wattage doesn't seem to be too high yet. If you're looking to repaste a bare GPU die from what I know it's best to use too much and let excess squirt over the substrate because you really need to make sure the whole die is covered.

The nitro should be a nice card, the guy that review pcb's said that it have nice vrm section, not so powerful but constant over the T°, even at the highest, so don't worry about.
After that yeah, try case open, or to add a fan to see if the t° drop a bit.
Both vrm and gpu are at the same T° witch mean that the gpu heat even more than the vrm, usually u have some °c between the two T°.

Even 70° full loas is nothing, until u reach 85/90° it is fine, over that the card is fine, but do not expect to get more mhz from the core.

It is not about what everyone says, look bitcoin mining, for this amd was the best, i see nobody use a nvidia card, i didn't even know if it can mine. biggrin.gif
At the end, if the card is capable to achieve 70/80 fps ingame in DX11, u will not see the difference from an ati or nvidia. tongue.gif

Nvidia can mine and does so pretty well since Maxwell just the price isn't good for what they offer so people still go to AMD plus the efficiency is lacking compared to AMD. I never meant I'll see a difference or not from AMD/Nvidia though so I don't know where you get that lol

Ok then no worries man biggrin.gif

Oh yeah and I don't know if I can do this (if its considered advertising) but I have a bunch of RX 480 unboxings on my channel if anyone wants to check it out and planning to do some reviews of them sometime later.
