I am about sick of this 470 I have, I had a 480 from XFX and there is something broken with this series of AMD cards. It literally won't boot into windows while onboard will at times.. When I try to reinstall Windows I literally have to use the onboard graphics to install the Radeon drivers. It acts like it won't support a resolution a Intel HD will by default. Its not a driver or motherboard issue as ive tried various ones and it still does the same thing.

The 470 works really well once I am gaming but I have literally had so many minor issues that I am about to give up on it and go green team even though I am Radeon by heart.

I am using a 4K Seiki TV, could that be the issue? Didn't have this issue at all on a R9 285. I am just running 1080p but it always wants to default to 3840x for some reason.

Maybe try it on another monitor or TV, check that the cable it's in good shape, or reset windows, that fixed a lot of annoying bugs i had when i went from my GTX 960 to the RX480. thumb.gif

Most of the times I've had issues like that it ended up being the cable's fault.

Which crash did you have? I only ever had wattman crash on occasion, and it was if I tried clicking on the gaming tab too soon after the program opened.

They probably just released what the had fixed more in the works soon instead of waiting to fix all of them and pushing it back a couple more weeks.

Considering no one else has had these issues, I doubt it's the card causing them. Perhaps an incompatibility between the card and one other piece of hardware you are using.
I have seen DP cables cause all sorts of headaches like this.
Trying another cable and monitor is a good idea. Also, Although you have likely already done this, make sure your BIOS is giving priority to the card and not your on-board graphics.

If you haven't already done so, reset your CMOS or update it if one is available.

Cable, display, motherboard slot, motherboard BIOS, that is what those symptoms point to.

If you are using HDMI, it is because of a bad cable. RX 470 supports HDMI 2.0, R9 285 does not. If the cable does not support HDMI 2.0 speeds or is flaky, the GPU will not always detect an HDMI 2.0 device on the other end of the cable.

Its also likely that the TV has an iffy implementation of HDMI 2.0, especially if it is a first gen 4k TV.

RX 470 defaults to 3840x2160 because that is the displays actual resolution. R9 285 defaults to ~1920x1080 because that is the maximum supported resolution for the TV in HDMI 1.1-1.3 operation.
