Oh, at first I thought "ah, that's a bit high", but then I remembered you're clocked higher than me and pumping more volts smile.gif How are your fans set in WattMan? Do your fans reset to default rpm after you wake from sleep? I hate having to reapply min and max fan speed after every wake...

Did you lower your clocks as well as your voltages? I'm at stock 470 nitro clocks (8gb version with samsung chips) and I lowered my voltages down a touch, I need to figure out how much I can lower them by each time to test how low to get, as in, what MV steps should I take to go down?

I really don't let my PC sleep.. It's pretty much running 24/7, I have a screensaver that's about it. But I have my wattman set like this, the only time it changes is every time I install new drivers, which is slightly annoying.

And as I stated before the past few driver updates have progressively lowered the heat up of my card, so where I sit now is a lot better than where I was. Remember, I apparently have super hot VRM's compared to pretty much every one else that has this card.

SO here's the list of 'oddities' I have.
1. Addition of the 5" screen I use to monitor temps and clocks (Dual display basically)
2. My card apparently likes it's juice, and the VRMs get hotter than most 470 Nitro 8Gb cards do.
3. My CASE had to be modded to add a secondary intake fan up top (did nothing to my GPU temps but lowered CPU temps by 20C)
4. Unless I'm going to be gone for a few days or the power is out, my PC stays on 24/7. I don't let it sleep*, but do use a screensaver. (on the main monitor, it doesn't apply to my secondary one for some reason) I am thinking about changing this, though.
**I stream movies and my internet is super slow so if I let my PC sleep it completely erases any video buffering I've loaded so far, which is super annoying lol.
5. My room is generally 73-80F depending on the day, and it's difficult to have my PC get good airflow from the room.

Yes, but I had previously received authorization for a rma before the water damage for a rendering/video memory issue. So technically they were replacing the card for that. Also, if you return the card to the original working order before contacting them, obviously it wasn't the water cooling that caused the problem so don't say anything. I did. I was honest with them and sent pictures. They honored it anyway. They didn't have to. They probably shouldn't have.

On the poor contact. I've replaced the thermal pads 3 times and put paste on the MOSFETS and on the block so the pad would have better contact. It dropped it an extra 2 degrees. Initially, yes there was s tiny sliver of one of the returns that wasn't covered. Maybe .5 mm or less. I doubt that caused the issue, but fixing it had no effect. It was the one at the top right that's a little offset from the rest.

Right now, I'm running with just the XFS card connected. The ASUS card is still in the loop but it's not in the slot. I'm playing Dishonored 2. Since there isn't any crossfire support, no sense in hastening the demise of the ASUS card. I purchased Shadow Warrior 2 today, so I'll hook it back up when I get to that. I'll get to play 3 way crossfire sometime next week when my Nitro gets here. Eventually I may sell it and get a reference card or trade it for a reference card so I can run 3 blocks.

I purchased a UPS and a upgraded powersupply. The powersupply, a new EVGA G3 Supernova 1000watt, will get here before the Nitro. The UPS already got here. The UPS is only 900 watts but can do 980 peak. My killawatt shows I'm only using 535 watt max with 2 cards in crossfire and with my fans/oc cpu. 3 cards shouldn't use more than 735-850 maxed out depending on the oc. Anyone see any technical problems with having a lower capacity UPS than my powersupply if my kilowatt says I'm not actually drawing more than the capacity at the plug? I'll plug it directly into my surge suppressor if you think it will cause a problem. Thoughts? I can get a 1350 watt from newegg for $200 but not with "pure-sine" and move this one to my router/ upstairs computer. I've been meaning to get one for my router so my internet doesn't go out right away when my power goes out anyway. But my budget may make me wait to do that until next month.

My core clocks keep jumping all over the place when at desktop. Anybody else experiencing this?

Is there a way to keep it steady at a lower clock?

Yes, WattMan gives you access to all performance states. Just instead of the default linear rise, set first few states to 300Mhz or whatever, and the last few to whatever clocks you want to use for gaming. That should in theory prevent frequency variations, although I haven't tried it myself. Remember to adjust voltages accordingly as well.

It hasn't happened in a month or two though.

I do suggest not altering clocks while hwinfo64 or gpuz is open. Normally I'd lose performance on my memory overclock after performance was back to "normal" and also have to do a DDU to get the last 2.5% of my performance back (3 or 4 fps). There have also been reports of crossfire being stuck at 50% utilization until a cold boot. I haven't seen that yet so I didn't track the issue.

I have another rx480 8GB that's failing. The VRMs spike the voltage once in a while. One of them is probably going to go out, fry and then send 12 volts directly to my GPU. It happens less often if I undervolt and under-clock so I haven't been messing with settings and was just trying to get my card to limp along until my replacements got here.

At the default voltage for my card, a stupid 1.15 volts, it will spike once an hour or so to 1.3 or 1.45 for a split second. My VRMs are underwater at 39 degrees Celsius under load. It's not overheating. At an undervolt of 1.015v, 35 degrees Celsius and a clock rate of 1215mhz it will only spike once ever 4 hours or so under load. When the issue started it only did it once every 12 hours. It's getting progressively worse. So I'm not messing with overclocking until ASUS gives me a replacement or until it dies.

I just got 2nd card from XFS that's also a 8GB 480 reference card as well. It doesn't do that. Neither did my reference Sapphire rx480, except once when the vrms were overheating while running 3dmark power virus loop on air while overclocking and over-volting. I killed my Sapphire with a water leak, or with thermal death, not sure which, and they are sending me a Nitro 8GB I can't use my block on. Is was that or wait an undetermined amount of time.

I'm 99% sure the ASUS card is going to go out. I put it back to stock and took screen shots of HWINFO64 for ASUS support. We'll see what ASUS says. Since it hasn't actually failed yet, they'll probably not do anything. Shame. If they replace it now they could replace the vrms and salvage the card or at least pull the gpu off. After the vrms fail the gpu will be toast.

ASUS are the worst at reliability and support, they cant design their hardware any better than other companies and are too broke to provide support and replacements most of the time, so have fun with that...

Sapphire are among the best so it's no surprise they would send you a new card from water damage, that and in many cases they aren't too hard to repair.

No, they'd be kicking themselves in the ass if they did, the stickers are just a bluff to deter the inexperienced.

I have to disagree, the Asus 480 PCB is the best on the market, the issues they have come mostly from poorly made BIOS, I believe.

I'd be curious about temps as well. Haven't something like this in awhile. Does it droop a lot?

I think I got a rx 480 8gb disguized as a 4gb. I bought a XFX RS RX-480p4jfc6

http://imgur.com/a/BN6my

The photo quality is ****, but I guess you can see that there is more than 4 vram modules, right?

The only problem is that my motherboard doesnt reconize this card, and now I don't know if the gpu is malfunction or my motherboard is too old.

I have a asrock B75M-DGS R2.0, with the last bios available on the official site. My old hd 7770 works fine on this mobo.
