but honestly Ive gotten to the point that i dont see a reason to overclock these chips much (memory and core), I can run 1275mhz @1025v easily (probably a little higher but not 1300mhz) and it gives me substantially lower power consumption and temps with no real penalty @ 1080p 60hz. Sure, pushing 1175mv i can do 1375 or 1400+ at 1200-1250mv but i just feel personally the power to performance isnt there at that point. Polaris just doesnt feel like the one to overclock it feels more like the one you undervolt till you crash.

Greater benefit comes from making sure the card doesn't throttle so much, than from OCing. It's better to have 1250Mhz 100% of the time, than 1400Mhz for 5% of the time, and 1100Mhz the rest.

Just got a XFX GTR Black edition RX480 to replace my Gigabyte Windforce 7950.

Love it, runs so much faster and quieter.
I wish wattman had a game overlay as I plan to overclock it a bit more if i can, or at least undervolt.

Great looking card.

Why do you need an overlay? Those things are annoying DLL injectors. You're gonna know even without it when the OC is unstable and can check your much more detailed monitoring information if the system doesn't reboot or halt, or just read the log file if it does and you wanna see the data.

Overlays are clunky and annoying IMO, so I did this to remedy that situation, and I'll never own a PC without one since I did it.

All I do is just let Rainmeter/HWinfo run in the background (next to no system impact at all) and I can see WHAT is bottlenecking me and WHEN, in real time. And it's nice to be able to monitor temps across the board in case something gets too hot on an OC.

CPU meter, GPU meter, clock, HDD monitor, and Network monitor. I can see temps, clock speeds, useage, fan speeds, and if something is running that's not supposed to while I'm fullscreen I can instantly tell.

It's to also see if the gpu is throttling while im playing so I can adjust the power limit if i need to.

It will be removed once Ive found a few different settings and write them down somewhere.

I can monitor all my clocks and that's actually how I found out that I was throttling, I was seeing my clock dropping and staying down, so I checked my log file and sure enough, I was hitting the power limit. No problems since I've raised it. Thanks for the compliment smile.gif I absolutely love it.

Here is where I am at after an afternoon of playing around
https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/details/dxhc6

I think ill be able to get a bit more out of it as I only just upped the voltage from 1075 to 1100 and the mhz by 5 to 1380 from my last oc, which only failed after a half hour bf1 and recording using relive.

This core 1380mhz/1100mv and mem 2250mhz/1000mv passed a quarter hour of Unigine Valley and 30m of Bf1
Not what i'd call stable yet, but Ill push it a bit more before I decide where abouts ill want my final oc to be and then stress test it for longer.

As you can see, temps around 60ish about 24*c ambient room, case would be warmer (HDD and SDD are at 37 atm.)

I am nothing but impressed with this card.

I want to come up with an OC for the following scenarios:
General use (low power, low temps, low noise)
Folding (High power, lower temps)
Gaming (High Power, medium temps)

Im hoping using wattman, that i can do all this on the one setting, so I wont have to switch profiles like how I used to on afterburner.

Wattman can use some profiles though. Also, it would be greatly appreciated if it can show some popup notifications when the driver crashes and it resets its settings, and pushing even further - a setting on which profile to switch to after driver reset. I don't want it to nullify my fan settings every time it crashes.

Anyone know how to extend the voltage limits in MSI Afterburner? I want to undervolt more, but I can only go as low as -100mV
