XSPC Blade

I used Fujipoly Ultra thermal pads for the VRMs and the temps are essentially equal to my Homebrew solution.  Still pretty salty that the block doesn't actively cool the VRMs....oh well....will be attaching my heatisnk to the bank of the card and possibly getting Fuji Ultra Extreme pads just to make it as good as possible.

Here's performance after 15 minutes of looped Valley at 1400/2250

VRMs peak at 78C

20 minutes of heaven at all stock settings

VRMs peak at 67C

Here's after a couple hours of heaven without the post: (Both tests were taken with same fan settings but as it's now night time my ambiant temp has dropped 1 degree in the room.)

Here's the same settings after maybe ten min but with less ventilation in the room. (my door is closed.) Edit(ok less than ten from the graph. )

What block are you using?  The PCB should not be bent if it is installed correctly.

Mine isn't experiencing any issues with the XSPC Blade block.   The PCB is so short that there really shouldn't be any sagging/bending issues with any type of cooler.

I love the way that block looks. Very clean. Can you post the Valley Benchmark number for the 1400/2250? Are you going to try to push the card further?

Got my heatsink on the back of the card now and testing for potential temp drops.

I can post the bench for you no problem.

1080 Full Screen - Extreme 8xAA - 1400/2250 - Score: 2482

I will be attempting to push the card further, but I don't think it will be tonight. Seeing as how the VRMs are not experiencing the temp drops I was anticipating, I doubt there is much left in the overclocking 'tank'. Next step is likely going to have to be BIOS flash.

@Roboyto

It's not bent at all if I put a support post on it. And it works great. It's the weight of the block that's bending the card for me. Here's after the installation without the post. Notice the sag?

I had to change the fittings on the block as EKWB only allows 4mm depth on the g1/4 fittings. Flow was restricted. Here's what it looks like with a support post. i'll get a back plate.

It's possible there's still a problem... but temps are really good. the Voltage regulator on my motherboard is holding me back rather than temps.

Is it worth to replace my EVGA 960 SSC 2GB with RX 480 8GB? My CPU is 8300 (4.0 Ghz). Perfomance gain is 30-40%?

Here's what I'm thinking for my 24-7 overclock. I'm a little gun shy after smoking the vrms on my MB at 1470 at ~1336mv in 3dmark Firestrike Ultra stress loop.

Are you on 1080P? At 1080p I'd consider waiting another gen as I'd be able to tolerate the performance of the 960 in current gen games for another year. If your on 1440p it would be worth it to me. Depends on your situation. I hold onto graphics cards a long time. Others upgrade more often.

Hadn't even noticed that...I was pretty much asleep when that benchmark finished up sleepysmileyanim.gif

I am running Win X.

Depends on the resolution, but it looks like the  MSI Gaming would be about twice as fast comparing stock speeds according to TPU.

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/RX_480_Gaming_X/23.html

GTX 960 is 55% of the performance at 1080 and 45% at 1440.

Depending what your budget is, a 470 may even be a worthy upgrade since they are a good portion of the performance of the 480 for less $

Maybe the EK block is that much heavier than the XSPC.  I would get the backplate sooner than later and then you could make use of it as a VRM sink as well with some thermal pads.

What kind of temperatures for core/VRM are you seeing with stock voltage limitations?  I'd like to make a comparison of the blocks...even though you have exponentially more radiator space & much larger tubing than I do.

Was the card capable of ~1400 on stock volts?

Yes, I am on 1080p and will stay there for long. I don`t change components often, but this is a exception because I think that 480 will be will be a way more long lasting on 1080p than 960. It would be a small difference in a price if I sell 960 and buy a 480. So it is worth it?
