I am so disappointed, and will probably RMA the card.

Just out of curiosity, would 78.1% ASIC (im air cooled) as well as a 1100mV 1385MHz stable (Valley, BF1 and Folding) be considered above average for an RX480?

78% ASIC shouldnt even be a concern unless youre going for specific overclock conditions. ASIC is almost entirely irrelevant for Air cooled overclocking. ASIC only comes into play in LN2 or High end Water cooling situations that have enough capacity for cooling to compensate for the heat output and thats when a higher ASIC is preferred because of the better voltage response is better for extreme conditions. Otherwise Ideally for air (even though really it doesnt matter) you want a lower ASIC sub 80% but higher than 60% but really for air its just down to luck and if you have a good chip as you cant dissipate enough heat to really matter anyway.

as for the 1100mv 1385mhz yea thats a pretty decent overclock but I dont think this thread has enough actual info to say how that stacks up vs the average 480.

Has anyone replaced the thermal pads on the Sapphire RX480 Nitro? If so what thickness pads are recommended?

I have a coolermaster seidon 120xl that fits perfectly on the core but need to find a way to cool the VRMs on the Nitro card...and I dont like epoxy nor do I want to leave traces that might void the warranty. Need to find/build somehow a heatsink that fits on top of them with thermal pad and then fine a way to keep it in place!

I am open to ideas...(dont forget its the Nitro card, not the reference)

My Nitro 470 was good with 1mm pads. The Vrms could actually use .5mm it seems but the memory needs 1mm and I didn't want to buy different types.

I don't have a Sapphire card but I watercooled my Powercolors with AIOs and just point a fan to the VRM while using thermal pads to sink the heat to the backplate as well. Works pretty good. It doesn't even have to be a really fast fan especially with tbe Sapphire having a really high 125C rating for the VRM.

I actually have a Coolermaster Seidron 120 I bought back in 2012 or 2013 that I re purposed for my R9 290 and now the RX 480. What I did is just use black twist ties like you get from bread...I always save them that are wrapped around any cables.

I use the twist tie to attach the small old cpu fan to blow over the VRMs. My Idle temps for my Core hovers around 30 degrees and my VRM 36 or so degrees. My motherboard has a waterpump header I attach the Seidron to and the fan is on my fan controller, same as the twist tie cpu fan for the VRM.

What is the best software for fan and voltage control? MSI rx480 8gb

Tired of wattman random resets to default.

Mine\s Nitro as well wink.gif Here's my whole setup. It's good up to about 1.2-1.225V. I'll be trying to attach something bigger this weekend. I'm currently using simple zip ties to attach it, but it's not ideal (difficult removal) so I think I'll go to the hardware store and look for smallest bolts and nuts they have. It really was only supposed to be a temporary solution to see if it works at all, but it worked out well enough to keep it for the week. If you have any old CPU heatsinks (for example Socket A) laying around you can just cut those up to shape, place it on the card, paint drill marks with a sharpie through the mounting holes and you're nearly done.
