Have you tried AB with nothing else? I've found that just running one control panel works better than multiple. My 6870s locked down when I tried running Catalyst and AB at the same time. I swapped out my 6870s back to the XFX 5770 HD Radeon and that card could no longer Overclock, even though I used Catalyst exclusively and switch over to AB to test the clock I had on it. My 6870s are Sapphire HD Radeon cards and I'd read somewhere that those're locked cards. But having their profile removed made no difference. AB was locked down for the 5770. mellowsmiley.gif

Gigabyte RX 480 G1 4GB GAMING is the cards exact name and the main reason why is because of the way the VRM's on this card work... I dug up an older post on this thread about it:

Also it seems to back up that its the IR3567B but the tool I was provided says otherwise and MSI afterburner won't apply the voltages (It just jumps back to 0+ on applying no matter what voltage control I choose).

You probably have the same VRMs or similar that my old 270x. They ID as IR3567B but most likely aren't and use different signaling and likely won't ever be unlocked. If that's the case you would have to manually edit voltage in a Hex Editor.
Thats what I was thinking because I read up and the VRM's haven't got any built in method of controlling them like other VRM's. How would I go about changing the voltage? I just want to bump it up to 1.185 or 1.190 since thats all I will probably need to get this card to 1400 on the core. The Hynix memory is good on this card, hitting 1950mhz fine in wattman and according to hwinfo, no memory errors while looping unigine and playing bf4 and ark for a few hours.

So I'm a bit curious. What games are people having issues maxing out? On 1080 and 1440p (super sample) I have yet to find anything in my Steam library that doesn't run smoothly maxed out) I'm using a completely stock MSI RX480 Gaming X.

Ah....well that bites. I just watched a video on Youtube from Actually Hardcore Overclocking, he was disappointed that Gigabyte went with a lower high MOSFET than even the reference cards. I wonder why they went that route? It's not like it made the cards that much cheaper. NOTE: This was the 8gb version. I'm guessing the 4gb cards used the same.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I had a little time this morning, so I thought I would do a little testing.....again...lol

From my previous testing I found that 2170 on the memory seems to be the sweet spot for my card, without modding the bios. I wanted to see how high I could get the core on just the stock voltage. The default is 1338mhz. I added +31 to the core, then ran Valley. I ran 1369/1400/1431. I'm not sure if I could have went another +31, so I decided to just stop there. I then ran my battery of benchmarks.

Valley
Heaven
Time Spy
Firestrike
The Division DX11/DX12(Ultra preset)
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided DX11/DX12(Very High Preset)

I only did one run of each. No added voltage. This represents a OC of 6.95%. The voltage stayed around 1.175-1.181 for the most part. It did top out at 1.200v. It seems The Division spikes the temps worse than anything. It hit a max of 67°.

Here is a spreadsheet showing the stock numbers, OC numbers, with the % gained.

Source RX480 OC 6.95%

I would say that isn't too bad, considering no added voltage. thumb.gif

Here are the screenshots if anyone cares to look:

Is there any way I can get the vram to clock any higher? I get quite a nice boost at 2100 but a load of memory errors, throwing voltage at the memory controller does nothing and I can't figure out how to add a bit more to the memory.

You have to hard mod memory voltage. There is no software control

lol pretty much everything released after 2015
rainbow six siege, halo 5, forza apex, civilization (ironic since it was being bundled with the gpu), mass effect andromeda the list goes on and on... it's not a top of the line gpu, even though it's priced like one.
(unless inflation somehow magically made our money 50% of what it was worth 5 years ago when i bought a 6870)
******* hate how they keep jacking up the price for these brackets. now a low tier 460 costs as much as the mid tier 6870 was.

Wait for sales, the same tech is getting cheaper. I got my rx 470 for about 30% less than what i paid for my 4850 & 7850.
