With my vrms water cooled I haven't had my vrms over 75 even in firestrike ultra. They spend most of their time in the 60s with my OC. Are you saying my OC is unsafe? Maybe you meant if vrms are on air. I don't have metro last light redux only last light. I'll check the hospital level later.

I agree with your recommendation on not getting a reference card unless you're planning on doing custom water.. The reference cooler is terrible and louder than a 6870. It's higher pitched and annoying. It could have done with two six pin connectors or an 8 and a six. Putting 4 or 5 of the phases on the power supply would have made the reference card perfect for water cooling but alas no.

Question:
Will the reference run quiet if no OC or will it be loud as f ?

You gotta use custom fan curve or else it will shoot up to 90C because the fan spins so slow.

It's quiet, but do you want it to run that hot?

It was ok but noticeable at stock. Depends on your tolerance to noise.. It also depends on the game. I mainly played Witcher3 when I as on the stock cooler. It was fine on stock settings. Loud if I wanted to keep my gpu below 75 rather than the stock setting which sets the temp target at 80.

Yeah but only reference and not worth buying for me from Germany, I do check DE shops like that one but they don't have much better offers than I can get here they just tend to have better supply of new cards. Shops here don't bother to list custom version until they receive stock or at least confirmation of incoming stock. Where as Mindfactory and Caseking will list custom cards for a month without being able to sell any due to no stock.

Only when you undervolt it toward 1.0V same as NV cards run 1.050V and not 1.150V and limit the clocks down. P10 wasn't designed to run high voltages and clocks at all just like all previous AMD chips frown.gif
It performs best tuned down to better efficiency. NV does this by default but AMD lacks performance so they push the chips beyond their ideal operating area.

Thanks for the answers.
I will come back once my build is done...
I hate late shifts - cant get anything done at home, lol.

Actually, P10 is clocked properly for its efficiency range, AMD is just over-volting the efficiency right out of it.

Stock voltages:

Appropriate voltages:

Compared to R9 290, also using appropriate voltages:

... I will be doing with an RX 480 this weekend.

EDIT: These are power usage over idle, so PSU efficiency is about 85% average in this usage range, so multiply the values by 0.85 to get total board power.

I didn't undervolt mine until I got my block on but yeah it under-volts nicely; temps go way down too. I imagine noise on the stock card would go down considerably with a nice under-volt. As I said, I didn't test an under-volt until after I put a water block on.

GecKoTDF - what chapter are you selecting? I don't see a level listed as hospital in Metro Last Light. I haven't played it in a couple of years. Again I don't have the redux version. Also, the steam version seems to have taken the benchmark out.

Edit: NVM I found the benchmark. max temp on vrms was 68. max power usage without ssaa was 210 watts. 230 spike here and there with ssaa. Oddly the card clocks down here and there during the bench. Considering the temps aren't getting out of the 40s on the gpu it's not a thermal throttle. must be dynamic power usage or something. I did find I had to raise my overclock voltage by 2mv for stability with ssaa and vsr for 4k resolution. Odd. 3dmark Firestrike Ultra was fine.

Its unsafe from the perspective of slot power draw. For high OC's/voltage I would invest in a PCIe riser with its own power or re-wiring phases on the slot to a second PCIe connector (cutting the 12v traces and connecting them to a female PCIe pigtail).
