What's going on with the second gpuz pic? it shows your VDDC all the way up at 1.1438 for 1270mhz. That was after resetting global to defaults? Is 1.15 the default voltage for this card? If so that's wacky. AMD or powercooler have some fuzzy maths there.

On the power limit, you have to hit the temperature control. That's why it's resetting. On the new version it lets you turn it up but it still doesn't take effect until you put the temperature control on. On the old version it was grayed out until you turned it on. It's more misleading now. That's not your fault.

I also hate how it now forces the voltage for the memory controller to switch from auto to manual when you go to manual on the gpu. They didn't used to be tied together on the previous versions. Now I get memory errors sometimes switching from desktop to game. I didn't before the latest version that forced me off of auto. I logged several million today going back and forth from The Evil Within and this site. I turned my memory clock way down as a result. I haven't had to do that in any other game. So maybe it's The Evil Within. It's not that well of a coded port.

looncraz is pretty smart you can try his suggestions and he probably has an interesting idea. I'd consider 1105 for core with your super low asic and maybe 1010 for memory since you have to run manual on that anyway. Turn on plus 50 on the power limit by turning on manual temp. Also, by running your max voltage on p4 p5, and p6 you're going to have to throttle down to p3 to get relief when you hit your power limit. That could be what's hurting your score. Take whatever is stable at p7 and subtract or add that difference from the default settings on the other p states and then add about 5 to 10 mv for fudge room if your subtracting, level it off toward not getting rid of anything as you move down. If your adding, no reason not to keep adding on the way down the p-states but don't add as much fudge room. It's kinda of more of an art than a science as each card responds a bit differently.

I'm not sure which GPU-Z....lol Sorry, I've taken and posted a few already. Point me to it, and I might be able to explain.

Wattman defaults(1150 Mv): Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I think the card actually has more than that, but AMD has it locked at 1150mV. I read it somewhere earlier today, but I can't find the link.

Cool on the power limit. I will mess with it in a few. thumb.gif I want to say that I read, I believe in the same review, that +20-25% increase is the sweet spot on the power limit.

Well now that I "learning" more, I have made a little progress.

I was able to run Firestrike and Heaven at 1090mv 1270mhz/1750mhz. Firestrike still had a little throttling on test one. Test two and the combined it was at 1270mhz. Valley stayed at 1270 too. It did seem to take a few scenes to get going before I began the actual benchmark though. Heaven crashed, not the app(blackscreened). biggrin.gif I did see artifacts to start appear(around scene 19 or so) and I had it feeling it was about to crash. lol

I have messed with the voltages.

Here is Wattman(note I haven't touched the power limit yet): Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I will say this about Wattman....I like having the P-states available, now that I am looking at it a little different. This control acts on a bios level. If I am thinking right. Coming over to mess with this after the 970 is a bit different.

Thanks for all the help guys....you may have talked me into keeping it....we'll see. thumb.gif

The third one you posted of it running after resetting to defaults. I guess strike what I said about running 1.110. If 1.090 is stable great. I'd then run ((default) -60 +5) or ((defualt)-60+10) on the p6, p5 and p4 instead of keeping the voltage at 1090 for the next p states. The ones bellow that can stay at defaults without effecting you much. I don't know if you saw my post about the temp setting to manual, but you have to do that for wattman to take the power limit to +50 and have it take. If your still getting lockups try 1010 on the memory too. Your low asic affects stable voltage on your memory controller too. That's what the memory voltage setting is affecting. (We're 99% all in agreement on that but I'm not sure we've had confirmation from AMD on that)

Well I set the power limit to +23. Ran Valley(looks good):

Looks like the max voltage was 1093. I watched it as it was running, and it was flipping between 1066-1075. I never saw the 1093. I wasn't paying attention when it first starting running. lol Nice and steady across the board really. Yea, low asic and Hynix Vram. Some of it OC's well and some doesn't. I'm not concerned really about the memory at this point......core first. Besides if there is a issue, then no need to mess with it at the moment.

EDIT: Firestrike(same settings): Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

@Hequaqua The 470 is kinda starved for memory bandwidth. Too bad the AIBs didn't put Samsung on them. They charge enough.

I figured out my memory errors sort of. It's when I leave my game running , switch over to my browser and then go take care of my father or paint molding or do enough stuff for my monitor to go into power saving mode with the game and monitoring software running in the background. There must be something letting the memory controller drop to idle while in pwersaving mode and that must not be stable coming back out. It didn't used to happen. I only loaded the 16.8.2 driver a few days ago. That's all that's changed. I"m not getting errors or stutters in game and no matter what settings I get a solid 60fps on this game with almost no v-droop or stutter as I have to run vsync. (The Evil Within is a very mediocre port. The game itself is fun. Just not crazy about the lack of pc options and I have to disable dpi scalling in the properties of the exe for it to display properly)

Your card's getting a normal v-droop for heaven. the v-droop is a bit bigger for firestrike ultra so that's why you need a little more there. Metro Last LIght has the most p-state changes and a pretty large vdroop it's also pretty good for stability testing. I'm on water and I found a single use case in Far Cry 4 where I can take my card to about 300 watts at 1435 and 1.235v. The vdroop is crazy there. It drops to ~1.21 and ~ 1.195v. from 1.093 to 1.070 is not that much out of the norm. You're running a different VRM controller with different number of phases from my card.

edit: I saw your 970 timespy score. My rx 480 timespy is here: http://www.3dmark.com/spy/277815. 4746. There are a while lot of RX480 scores at the top that don't make sense. I wonder if there are driver packages out there that enable something we don't have with retail drivers yet but reporting the approved driver ver to 3dmark. The Number 1 score was done at 1266 single card and was 7844 on a fx8320. Granted timespy benifits from the extra cores but the graphics portion of the score was an astounding 10765. I get 4646 graphics on 1445 mhz. What the heck is going on here? Beta drivers that report as the approved driver version? Is there something really odd with the system info reporting and the 1266 was really 1650 or something ungodly on LN. Even that wouldn't account for all of the difference in graphics scores. Is 3dmark just buggy?

Well....I made it through 3 out of the 4 so far. I can't get through Time Spy. I had one black screen, then a couple of Wattman crashing. The clocks are staying at the 1270mhz though. That's good. I'll throw a little more power at it and see what happens. I want to say I had a little issue with the power in Time Spy with my 970's.

I have Last Light and Metro Redux. I may have to install those tomorrow. I reformatted a few weeks back, haven't re-installed them yet.

I think I'll run Valley for about 20 minutes. See if it makes it, and keeps the clocks. Good temp check too(my opinion).

Making progress though. thumb.gif

Thanks for the help. +1

EDIT: Same settings +50 powerlimit

I had to bump up another 2mv for Metro Last Light even though Firestrike Ultra Stress test was over 99.5% frame rate stable. Just so you know.
Just to chime in. My Red devil 470 is defaulted at 1150 mv for the p6 state too. But I cant hit 1350 with just boosting the power limit, is the card supposed to ship out at 1150? Edit : its actaully 1156, the same as hardocp red devil so idk

From what I can ascertain the AMD driver doesn't actually allow over-volting, only setting clocks up to the voltage set in the BIOS. So AIBs are setting higher default voltages, which makes their cards more clockable.

I've pushed 1.275V into my GPU (RX 480) and gained a whole 10Mhz over 1.15V, so I'm stuck at 1385Mhz being the highest playable GPU clockspeed. Only 1350 with 2150MHz RAM and 1.15V.

My RX 470 overclocking got me nowhere, performance-wise, as the card was so horribly bottlenecked and memory clocks would not take.
