I then lucked out and paid only $17 more for an XFX 8GB RX 480 GTR, which was an easy decision.

According to this list: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/2861/radeon-rx-470

Half of the 470's on the market are 1650 that's why i bought a Sapphire nitro 4GB boosted it to 1300 mhz on the stock 1081mv but haven't played with the ram clocks as i am afraid to touch them biggrin.gif (still new to OC-ing)

From my testing looncraz seems to be correct. I'm getting negative memory performance scaling with the 16.8.2 driver. The driver is messed up. I was getting great scaling with 16.7.2 driver. Same result as Hequaqua. Locked at 1000mhz down to p3 and +100 power limit I get lower scores at 1000/2215 then I do at 1000/2000 by far. 3 memory errors. Not enough to explain the results.

I started this thread for the issue, but people seem to be having difficulty understanding what I'm looking for. I charted the performance with different memory settings:

http://www.overclock.net/t/1609366/amd-16-8-1-16-8-2-memory-clocks-not-working

This is a driver issue, not a memory timing issue, as I have the same issue with he RX 470 & RX 480 with the August drivers.

This is why I want you to set your maximum memory clocks and let me know if HWInfo is showing any memory errors. It's critical that I know this, because I need to inform AMD of this issue so it gets fixed (in case they aren't aware).

I just ran Valley for about 5 minutes. Then I ran Firestrike and the Time Spy Stress test.

Here are the wattman settings: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Here is the HWinFO and GPU-Z: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

No memory errors....just a very odd max core voltage and core power....I don't think I used 49 millions watts...lmao!

The idea is to run it with your max memory overclock and once without and check if you get negative performance scaling with memory. The 1000mhz was just to make sure we aren't getting power state changes invalidating the data. Yeah, the amps and volt out seem correct in hwinfo but the math is really wrong when it gets to watts. It's like it does a cumulative counter there or something. Not sure, it's done that for every version since I got the rx 480 anyway.

Occasionally the VRM IC reports wrong values or HWInfo misreads them. I get the same issue sometimes, even at stock.

Just to add my 2 cents, it's not just newer cards my 290x was having black screens, poor performance, and just a rough time in general on the latest drivers. Rolled back a couple releases just to be sure and haven't had an issue, can also push memory higher too. Something is funny with the latest drivers

On Polaris the black screens I have seen and heard of were due to people overclocking without setting the p-states properly in wattman. I did have issues when I was re-configuring all of the p-states, I fixed it by bumping the voltages at clocks where I knew the voltage was very close to the minimum I knew was stable.

Yeah the latest drivers seem to be... bad to say it simply from what I read around forums and reddit experiences with any card. I've only tried them little and I had issue too but possibly due to the card being trash as it went back in RMA anyway.
I did run Firestrike earlier....got to around 1900 on the Vram. I want to say I was working on the core clock at that moment. If I remember, the performance was falling off around 1875 on this card. Could be my low asic.

I have passed just about every benchmark I have installed. All at the stock and stable of 1270/1750!

No throttling so far. thumb.gif No thermal issues. thumb.gif No driver issues! thumb.gif Just Wattman crashing. frown.gif

I'll post some results when I get them finished and organized.

Hers is the link for all the benchmarks on the GTX 970 I've done. I have too much time on my hands.
