Linux Mint 18

post #1 of 2
Thread Starter

The latest version of Linux Mint 18 is here, based on Ubuntu 16.04.  Figured I would start a thread to discuss any issues people are having with it.

It includes Boinc 7.6.31 which is a significant upgrade from the version in Mint 17.3.  Main feature I use is it includes project_max_concurrent in the app_config files for granular control when running multiple projects.

It was by far the easiest Mint install yet.  Boinc worked with my NVIDIA GPUs out of the box with the included drivers.  In the past I have always had to manually download and install drivers from NVIDIA to get the OpenCL libs set up correctly.

BUT...for folders, hold off, I was unable to install FAHControl due to a Python dependency.  I post this on the folding forum to see if there is a solution of if a new version will be required.  Unless someone knows how I can install this old version of Python along side the newer one included.

W: fahcontrol: new-package-should-close-itp-bug
E: fahcontrol: depends-on-obsolete-package depends: python-support (>= 0.90.0) => use dh_python2 instead
W: fahcontrol: binary-without-manpage usr/bin/FAHControl

Lintian finished with exit status 1

I saw on the GPUGrid forums someone made a rough guide on getting Boinc/GRUGrid started. Its 99% the same for any project though.
