[G3D] Civilization VI will get DX12 support and asynchronous compute

AMD teams with developer Firaxis working on DirectX 12 supporting Civilzation VI. The impending game will use asynchronous use compute and offer support for multiple GPUs using explicit multi-adapter.

Good news for AMD holders.
I wonder if this means they are going to keep nvidia from async by disabling async for nvidia.

Of course from AMD's announcement:
Quote:
Asynchronous compute is a DirectX® 12 feature exclusively supported by the Graphics Core Next or Polaris architectures found in many AMD Radeon™ graphics cards.

If nobody played Civilization there wouldn't have been a sixth installment.

yeah im sure they need cutting edge dx12 tech for rendering those fancy mobile graphics

Civilization VI will be able to use more than one video card, without being identical GPUs in an SLI or crossfire lineup. This makes it possible to combine the processing power of multiple GPUs. This can for example also be a combination of an AMD-GPU and Nvidia video card, or a combination of a graphics card with the integrated GPU of a processor. Furthermore, the game gets a built-in benchmark tool that performance graphics cards can be measured.

Nice.

Civ5 sold over 7m copies on PC and the entire series has sold 21m

It's one of the most popular strategy games on PC and it's probably still in the top 20 most played games on steam

Not a surprise, Civ 5 had DX11 and Civ BE had Mantle.

Lol, guys you are missing the joke in the 'nobody plays Civilization though' comment biggrin.gif

only if game developers make it gimped on purpose. I had no problems playing any other cartoony looking strategy games like recent Anno or Settlers titles on my nvidia gpu. this game has no excuse to run worse than these games i mentioned, because visually it looks even less detailed than anno.

I think you're doing it wrong if all you can think of those games are graphics. redface.gif
