R9 390 vs RX 480 vs GTX 970: which one is worth it more?

post #1 of 15
Thread Starter
Hey there fellow Overclockers,

I'm planning to game on 1920x1080, ultra graphics and at least 60 fps and I've locked down on everything else in my build except the graphics card. I'm between the following options:

* Sapphire R9 390 Nitro 8GB
* EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SSC
* Sapphire Radeon RX 480 8GB

The question is: Which one of the three is going to offer me the best performance at FHD 60 fps while being the most futureproof? You know, the prices of video cards in my country are WAY too high (eg. the new Sapphire RX 480 costs here around 360€ which is kind of a paradox, when knowing that the same card costs around 50-100€ less in other EU countries) and I want to make my decision as educated as possible.

Thanks in advance.

PS. The new Nvidia GeForce GTX 10xx series is out of the question. These cards cost upwards of 500€ here.

480 is the only one accelerating HEVC, so you might consider that in the overall value department.

RX 480 for sure.

Also, if you're in the EU, buy from https://geizhals.at/

Yup, this. Also consider that AMD drivers age way better than Nvidia drivers in the long run. I'd take an AIB RX 480.
