Yeah, the gambling part needs to be enforced by the childrens' guardians, not Valve.

Parents likely don't even know this is going on though. Valve was allowing children to gamble, and profiting from it, without the parents having any idea. At most parents may have some idea that their child has purchased skins in a video game. They would have no idea he can gamble it all away.

I'm not sure how you could enforce anything even if you did know what was going on. The most you could do is take your kid's skins away i guess.

This is true, but this applies to more than just gambling. It's much harder nowadays for parents to monitor what their children do online. It would certainly be the ethical thing to do for large companies to try and help parents with the task, but if it doesn't make them money then it's very unlikely that it will happen.

I don't see how or why skin gambling is such a big deal or why people are all bent around the axle over it... I read an article at PC Gamer and I still don't understand...
I understand things like buying premium vehicles or weapons in F2P games like World of Tanks / Warships, Blacklight Retribution, etc..

But buying / gambling on a weapon skin?

Children don't understand or appreciate the risk involved. They can also develop an addiction that can harm them later in life. Essentially the problems are the same reasons why casinos have a minimum age limit.

And booze and smoking and pretty much any other fun but addictive and harmful activity.

Not quite true.

Valve only profits from transactions done on the marketplace. All gambling via the sites is done via trading, in which Valve does not take a cut. Valve is not making profit off the gamblers, it only sets the price of the skins via community controlled marketplace.

No, but I'm sure they've indirectly profited off of it due to more people playing CS because they can win money for doing so.
