That very well could be, but to really take advantage of the features that each generation of GPU affords would undoubtedly require some work. I choose to believe the Futuremark developer when he says that AMD and Nvidia have their own reasons for not wanting this in Futuremark Benchmarks. At least not at this point.

Regarding Fermi I think it was supposed to initially, but they might have dropped support for it. So I guess not. I was mistaken. redface.gif

I am fine with my six Kepler cards not running this benchmark, if Kepler is indeed not DX 12 compatible (which I believe is true) I don't need to trick my self into thinking that Kepler can do DX12 by running this benchmark, when in realty the games may not reflect it... Lol

Kepler can do DX12. You might be misunderstanding what DX12 is and what it isn't.

What would be stupid is if Kepler can run DX12 games like Ashes and Forza and Tomb Raider and Hitman... and then a DX12 benchmark comes out and doesn't work.. lol

Here is the thing. DX12 in Kepler and even Maxwell has not shown any benefit in games so far in general. Might as well not bother with DX12 path for those cards if all you will see is +-5%.

I think Remij is referring to just the Api, and not the performance features? Which I get, but I meant the performance feature benefit within dx12 (or whatever the darn nerd technical term for it is.. Lol)

Kepler is in the same position as Maxwell when it comes to DX12's CPU optimization (which they both gain benefit of) and async compute (which they don't). Those are the main features of DX12 currently being used.

I think GCN 1.0 would benefit in lighter async compute compared to later version of GCN. I'm not sure if there would be more differences.

Until you get games that won't be backwards compatible or, the more likely case, performance starts to deteriorate without it. Once developers start focusing on making their pipelines use async, its not exactly like they're going to be keen on backporting their stuff. Not saying that's the immediate case, but you'll likely see performance deterioration as focus shifts from one to another. It's not like previous DX feature levels where there were optional features you just turn on and off. This is a hardware level feature set that will heavily depend on implementation, which is most likely why DX12 is its own version number and not DX11.x

On that point, I think maybe it would be a nice distinction if in the 3DMark app itself and reviews and advertisements, they clearly stated that it's a Feature level 11_0 - DX12 Benchmark to show general DX12 performance across a wide range of Hardware.

Then later, design and release a Feature level 12_0 (or 1) - DX12 Benchmark that makes specific use of the advanced features that higher end GPUs have (and other more forward thinking mid-range AMD GPUs) and that clearly demonstrates the performance those features can allow.

I think that's fair. And I think that's what they were even intending to do. I think they just could have been a bit clearer in the 3DMark app itself what FL they were targeting. So those who are inclined can read up on the Feature Levels and what they mean. Then later releasing TimeSpy 2.0 which has FL 12 support and really pushes the GPUs would be a nice way of comparing the feature level performance between 11 and 12 as well as the increase in fidelity that they afford. So TimeSpy 1.0 could be the baseline.. then things go from there.
