The point is we get to choose to invest in new technology, and better hardware is encouraged, as opposed to console users who act like the sky is falling the moment anyone is given any sort of options.

I don't mind the extra pixels at all, when they're actually being used to their full potential. The problem is, consoles are the lowest common denominator and despite having all of our supreme technology on PC, we're still kinda held back by that lowest common denominator since pretty much everything these days are merely ports.
Most games don't actually benefit from using their half-assed higher res textures. The only time they will is when consoles actually catch up. Are there any games out that even have REAL 4K textures? Other than modded Skyrim/Fallout? Everything I've seen on 4K pretty much has the same graphical fidelity a few feet away on a 4K TV... but maybe things have changed. Resolutions used to impress me... But now I'd rather see some graphical fidelity on 1080p (at higher frames) than Minecraft at 8K (please, excuse my hyperbole... but it's how I feel).
