I'm sorry I have to disagree but Rise of the Tomb Raider looks nowhere as good as Uncharted 4.

I get your point, but consoles ship with an HDD, I'm pretty sure SATA2 vs SATA3 doesn't make a difference on a 5400rpm HDD.

You can run Super Mario 64 at 8k at 120fps but it'll still look very bad. Some people have comparison of it:

What is 2K? 2K should mean 1080p IMO. The projection standard called 2K (2048x1152) is very close to 1080p, similar to how the 4K standard is quite close to 2160p.

I strongly believe this would be a better use of the power on offer...

The main problem with these conversations is you can't make statements like this in a vacuum.

Some games absolutely would be best off stripping every bit of graphical overhead for maximum framerate and resolution, there is no universal answer to what developers should do with the power available.

They're both really good looking, but i'll easily give the edge to ROTR because i can run the game at 100+ fps making it far more enjoyable than 30fps U4. Even if U4 may look a bit better in some areas, the difference is really insignificant, and any sane person would take the higher fps over slightly better visuals.

Just curious... biggrin.gif
While this is completely subjective, I would like to jump in with my opinion.
I feel that the MGS series had done some serious work in graphics with what they have had to work with.
MGS 4 on ps3 still looks good today, is it witcher 3 good? No, but it still holds its own.
Witcher 3, while jaw dropping in my humble opinion, is on a different level. The company was mainly unheard of until witcher 2/3, and did amazing things with the budget they had, as opposed to other studios with multiples of the same budget.
Now, MGS 5 is also just beautiful, an environment you can get lost in.
Anyway, I could go on forever about both series, so I'll stop here.
Edit: one of the things I loved about witcher 3 was that it appears that the same attention to detail was given to characters who have you a simple fetch quest, and major characters who have you major story quests. I have seen other games where by simply looking at how detailed a Scene was could determine its importance.

yes i agree that MGSV was very good looking
specially it looked very realistic in afghanistan BUT it was not on par or even close to what U4 offers in terms of attention to details , Texture Quality , AA , Foliage Quality , character models , Animations etc.

and about TW3 :
i personally count TW3 as my GOAT (and TLOU in 2nd place) and U4 is not even in top 5 for me
but character detail of U4 is just on a different level and it applies to every single character not just those who "Matter the most"
take this guy for example:

he is just a random NPC between hundreds of NPCs in a chapter of the game
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
i think the biggest problem here is that many of you haven't played the game:o

maybe not on X1 (still looks good there), but on PC maxed out yeah it does

textures are higher res on PC too than what PS4 can offer in U4
