Not at all. I know someone who has a 290 in a small apartment bedroom, and it hits 85°F in there when gaming with the window open. Normally its 75°F in there at most. When we installed it into his computer, I was laughing how much heat they put out compared to my GTX 970 that had the same heatsink. We now refer to his rig as the space heater.

On this page, the DC output rates the 12V rails together at 79A.

But, the way that it works is that 34A rating includes other components in the system.

Would it be possible to swap your X650 out for the Enermax, considering it is single rail rated at ~54A?

I can see your concerns about the OCP limit, considering if the current limit is reached, the PSU will likely shut down.

I would suggest reading this guide, if you haven't already.

JohnnyGuru also has a good guide.

But once again, you should be fine.

Thanks, man. And Thanks @diggiddi. I do remember running a GTX 480, and 5870s in Xfire back when I first bought this machine. I wasn't good at overclocking on X58 back then but I'm wondering if either of those GPU configs caused more stress, and instability to my CPU overclock?

This GPU venture has got me looking at PSUs which I haven't done since 09' I'm really liking the EVGA Supernova T2, 1k, 850w, & 750w. They have amazing scores on JohnnyGuru's benching table, wow!!! drool.gif I'm seriously tempted to pick one of those up before I pickup a GPU. Odd how when you want something but there is another that precedes it, lol tongue.gif

Crap, I'm so tempted to buy an EVGA 220 T2 SuperNOVA 1K today. After I bought my Enermax 950w Revo 85+ 6yrs ago I soon became a ripple, regulation, and efficiency nut, lol. Although this 950w has been doing great I can't stop thinking about the beauty of the 1K T2

if you could hold a while until the rx 490 gets released it would be a better choice, especially if want better performance at tessellation and DX11, unless you can find a ceap r9 fury unlocked with 4096SP or a r9 fury x at 350usd or less
post #18 of 22
What's the budget? 480 would be good if you're on a tight budget, but if not get a 1070/1080 or used 970/980. Would only buy Fury if it's cheap.

I had 500$ saved, had to unload a hundred on some real life crap. So now I have 400$ I don't mind spending a little and paying things off over a few months on credit, plus I can sell off some things I don't need. I could probably get 35$ for some DDR3 LP 1.35v 2x8GB 1600 CL8 sticks. They overclock to around 2200MHz. So liquid I'm working with 400$ Is the AMD 490 Vega? Or I mean the next AMD GPU iteration? Now that I think of it I WILL be waiting a while for new GPUs.. if I have to it'll be till Jan-Feb 17' I'm really waiting to see how DX12 and Vulkan end up performance wise. The PSU I could drop the money on now. I just love good ripple, regulation, and efficiency. I could possibly sell of the 950w or use it with my UD7 X58 board & 970, + keep the DDR3 kit.. I'd have the guts for a new toy, hmm

You could go to jet and get an XFX Fury X for 380 if you decide to waive free return and use the triple15 discount with your first account.
