Is Toshiba desktop HDD reliable?

Thread Starter
Resurecting myself from hiatus

My friend's PC has dead refurbished Seagate Pipeline (lol, it's not for desktop) hard drive, so I try to find the best and reliable HDD

I try to find Hitachi but they not selling Hitachi anymore, only Seagate, WD, and Toshiba.

I really doubt to choose Seagate because it's unreliable (my HDD will die soon), WD also doubt too since I saw Backblaze 2016 report said WD now unreliable (seen any failure rate?), Toshiba was a new player for desktop HDD but I don't know about reliability (through Toshiba HDD was a rebadged Hitachi HDD). Remember, Toshiba laptop HDD (which is very unreliable) was different on manufacturing than desktop HDD

So which it the most reliable HDD manufacturer other than Hitachi? Because my favorite computer store doesn't have the (Hitachi Deskstar HDD) stock other than NAS HDD. Essentially, is Toshiba desktop HDD reliable? Don't compare to it's laptop HDD

Thanks

Hitachi still sells its drives under the HGST brand. If you can't find it, I would take the chance with Toshiba. From personal experience, Seagate is awful. While Toshiba's 2.5" drives isn't necessarily representative of their 3.5" drives, I had luck with both internal 2.5" and an external 3.5". There is only 4 choices. I would choose either HGST or Toshiba.
