ALTHOUGH.. I must admit, CSGO actually requires a quad core.. or else you'd only get about ~150-200fps vs 300-350fps biggrin.gif
Single core performance in games is not everything anymore.
An intel dual core may have higher average fps but does the game feel as smooth as on a quad core? This is the main problem with dual core and games these days.

He totally contradicts himself. He says that that dual core is the best as single thread is all that matters then says that even CSGO needs more than a dual core and that game isn't even a demanding game.

All you need are two legs, you don't need more. But if you want to get anywhere you should get a car. LOLWUT?

Some of you guys just assume people gaming need max FPS for it to be enjoyable, tunnel vision. For most of the people playing games on these types of CPUs 30-40 fps is plenty in "AAA" games and a Pentium is going to kill most of the popular F2P games. GTA V is perfectly playable at 30 FPS on a Pentium and so are a majority of games(or consoles would be screwed at this point).

Someone buying a system with these 2 CPUs may read and learn more about what it takes to get better performance and higher quality graphics. Going with the Pentium would give them the only platform with an upgrade path, being on Socket 1155, 1150 or 1151(Pentium to i3, i5 or i7) since even 1st Gen i5 game just fine.

Look on Youtube for games like GTA V, Witcher 3, Farcry 4, Fallout 4 etc. Even overclocked the Athlon is generally at 30-50 fps or so which isn't exactly beating a Pentium, and we're not talking blind graphs, but real gameplay you can watch..

to the ignorant perhaps. If you'd actually kept up with their progress you'd know better. cinebench is 1 synthetic that favors K10, actual games favor K15h.
4Ghz+ is a Phenom's average max OC, yet Kaveri can do it with stock volts on the stock cooler and still give higher single thread performance.
Is that all the understanding you have of a CPU before you declare it's worth?

Even the G3285 isn't a match as it's only a dual core. Try playing GTA V on a dual core and find out how great these chips are.

The point being the 3258 is unlocked. It's closer to price and ability.

100%. Recommending budget users buy a Pentium for any sort of gaming in 2016 is a bit irresponsible. An Athlon, i3, or used i5 is a far better choice in the low-end market. I'm partial to FX chips myself but I'd have a hard time recommending them as a generality; success with FX is highly dependent on workload, system build, and user knowledge/experience.

I would only ever recommend it if they really, really wanted to learn how to overclock without destroying a $500-600 system. (Which would be crippling to someone who could only afford that much in the first place) The other reason being if they only wanted new hardware though the 3258 is a bit dated now.
