Internet and word processing, pretty much the cheapest computer you could possibly build will handle this stuff easily.

  • Seems like you could save a bit more money on the motherboard if you're just going with an i3, the cheapest board should do.
  • 16GB ram seems overkill for someone who only needs an i3 processor. I doubt they will ever use 8GB.
  • If it was my mum, I wouldn't bother with anything over 250GB ssd, would probably just get her a 120GB because she'd never notice the difference anyway, and no chance of using the space up, specially with a 2TB hdd for storage)
  • Also wouldn't bother with the cooler , the stock cooler that comes with the i3 will do fine.

Should be able to knock a few dollars off that price without noticing a difference.

That is complete overkill

will last her like 10-15 years probably biggrin.gif

you could loose the HDD i guess i don't think she will need so much space

the SSD is nice for a snappy start up.

As someone that's built a few media center PCs and things like that, these would be my sentiments as well.

Completely agree with the above, however based on her storage needs, I wouldn't go lower than 240gb on the ssd unless you're sure she doesn't need it (It's handy to have extra storage space on the SSD).

Although if you DO go with a 120GB, be sure to set the default save location for documents, downloads and programs onto the 2ndary hard drive (windows 10 makes this easy)
