Of course it benefits AMD architecture obviously when AMD GPUs are designed to benefit from it lol. But this whole DX12 = Async Compute thing made me scratch my head a little, as if AMD's design of async compute is the only correct way when it is just one way to deal with the order of execution.

Why is it not mentioned that AMD's advantage is not actually Async Compute but also can execute 3 types of operations at the same time ? copy, compute, graphics. People were giving examples like 3 lanes vs Nvidia's 1(+1) ? What happened to that type of advantage ? Async Compute is the process before communicating with the gpu right ?

I don't care if people call me names, but if we had more people who're doing research and asking questions like this one, arguably we'd be enjoying Volta right now, instead of the stop-gap-extra-milking-paxwell. I wouldn't have bought a Fury either if nVidia had an arch good at parallelism, I'd have considered both parties, so I'm affected even tho I'm not on the Pascal train.

At the end of the day however, it's your call whether to leave this in news or not.

Its good info.

Its sort of news for me to, i flagged it for other mods to Judge if it should be in news or not and its still in the news section so i think your fine thumb.gif

I honestly think DX12 is a complete failure at this point, and that's on Microsoft. Microsoft should have worked harder with both AMD and Nvidia on optimizing DX12 on their latest architecture. Where's the amazing leap we were promised on Polaris and Pascal? Yes, even though Polaris is stronger than Pascal in DX12, they could be even stronger with competent support from Microsoft. Instead we get some half-baked DX12 failure from Microsoft which hardly helps either of the latest GPU architectures.

I'm not calling out, or should I say, witch-hunting developers and making up a big storm because I don't feel my GPU was utilized 100% in AotS... so there's that difference.

Not only that, but I'm a realist. I understand that devs have finite time and resources. AMD games are gonna work better on AMD. Nvidia games are gonna work better on Nvidia.

But you guys thinking that every developer will spend time and resources making two completely different code paths to take all the advantage of each hardware are just simply KIDDING YOURSELVES. If a developer can design a single code-path that works well enough on both architectures.. they're going to use it. Not ever developer has to or will use async compute. And if they don't.. then AMD have themselves to blame and should be courting more developers to take advantage of their hardware like Nvidia does.

Anyway, where the heck were you guys back in AMD's DX11 days? Why weren't you making the same noise back then? Why weren't you complaining to AMD themselves the same way you are about developers now? Did you just accept that AMD's architecture wasn't being utilized to it's full potential by AMD's own fault?

AMD should have been making this push YEARS before they did.

Now that developers are starting to embrace the new API... you're still out for blood. Relax... some benchmarks aren't gonna push every aspect of every GPU out there. Some games are gonna perform better on Nvidia, and some on AMD.

And all this for what is amounting to like 5-10% increase in performance in the best case scenarios... relax.. the API is young yet. The architecture is different.

Not everything is Nvidia paid for this, or devs are bought and paid for.

You are not describing a benchmark.

Sure, games will go either way depending on who's in bed with whom. But a benchmark is supposed to be above all that, and yes, it is supposed to inform a customer's purchase. It's a benchmark. Either it's completely fair, or it should be removed from consideration.

LOL but here it is the funny part, why should AMD emulate something that has hardware support for it?
As the op said AMD can do both .parallel and switch, Nvidia can do only switch.

So who does this Benchmark favorites?

So you're saying that Microsoft's DX12 is a failure because it's not perfect right off the bat? Come on man, DX needed a serious re-write and this is the first iteration of that. It's a step in the right direction that we will all benefit from in the end. Should Microsoft have just tacked on a few new features to DX11 and called it a day? I really can't understand where you're coming from trying to badmouth Microsoft for overhauling DirectX, it's what we all wanted and it was sorely needed. We're discussing 3DMark's implementation, or lack there of, of DX12 in their new benchmark. Not whatever you were going on about. On a side note, what's with people wanting to over explain that NVidia can process Async compute? We get it . . .

Here Quote "Does DOOM support asynchronous compute when running on the Vulkan API?

Asynchronous compute is a feature that provides additional performance gains on top of the baseline id Tech 6 Vulkan feature set.

Currently asynchronous compute is only supported on AMD GPUs and requires DOOM Vulkan supported drivers to run. We are working with NVIDIA to enable asynchronous compute in Vulkan on NVIDIA GPUs. We hope to have an update soon."
